Survey Crew Member II

POSITION GOAL:The Survey Crew Member ll is responsible for performing advanced technical and professional field survey work; serving as party chief for field surveys and helping less experienced surveyors to gain experience and eventually become party chiefs; reviewing surveys to determine the validity of the evidence and methods used and to ensure accurate survey information; maintaining equipment and inventories; and performing other duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Levels runs as directed by the Survey Crew Party ChiefSet control points and benchmarksDetermines elevations and laying out stakes.Operates all survey equipment, including Total Station and GPS Data Collector.Sets up the instrument for data collection or level runsMarks points of measurement with elevation, station number, ID numbers, or other marks.Assists Survey Party Crew Chief as requested.Cuts and clears brush from survey lines; loads and unloads equipment.Proficiency with operation of total robotic stations, data collectors and GPS systemsPlans and conducts topographical surveys, takes cross sectionSupervises additional staff members assisting in survey assignmentsPerform other duties as assignedCOMPETENCIES:Ability to work independently as well as with a crewCan work effectively as a team player.Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect for our stakeholders.Shows insight into the root causes of problems. Bachelor’s degree preferred.Job Classification: Non-ExemptLicensure: N/AExperience: Typically 5+ yearsReport to: Survey Crew Supervisor or Department HeadCommunication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Technical Skills: Knowledge of local government agency standards, specifically IDOT and Illinois Tollway, Detail oriented. Knowledge of Boundary Survey, ALTA and Construction Survey.Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee lower level trainees and crew membersPhysical Demands: Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb or balance, talk or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or control. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasionWorking Environment: Work outside extensively and can be exposed to all types of weatherRequired driving to job sites in Illinois and Wisconsin may result in a long commute, must possess a valid license.Continuing Education: Complete state-required competency.
