About the Department

The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (PACCS) within the Department of Medicine is looking for faculty members at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, either on the Academic or Clinical Track. Our division boasts over 80 faculty members across four main hospital locations, featuring nationally recognized programs and leaders in areas such as Interstitial Lung Disease, COPD, Lung Transplantation, Critical Care Medicine (including Respiratory Failure & ARDS), Cystic Fibrosis, Interventional Pulmonary, and Sleep Medicine.

Our Interventional Pulmonology Program is a bustling, comprehensive center supported by six AABIP-certified faculty members. This program performs a wide range of advanced procedures, including over 200 rigid bronchoscopies each year, robotic bronchoscopy at three affiliated hospitals, and lung volume reduction surgeries, totaling more than 1,200 procedures annually. Faculty members are particularly skilled in managing subglottic stenosis and airway complications related to lung transplantation. The program receives referrals from Minnesota and surrounding states, handling approximately 3,000 clinic visits each year across five dedicated Interventional Pulmonology clinic sites, with support from two specialized RNNCs. We ensure dedicated operating room time at three hospitals, promoting procedural efficiency and accessibility. Established in 2016, our ACGME-accredited Interventional Pulmonology Fellowship attracts highly competitive candidates annually and emphasizes strong multidisciplinary collaboration with departments such as Otolaryngology (ENT), Thoracic Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Chest Radiology.

M Health and Clinical Partnerships

Providers operate at affiliated locations within the M Health Fairview shared care delivery system. This collaboration combines the resources of University of Minnesota Physicians (M Physicians), University of Minnesota Medical Center, and Fairview Health Services to create a nationally recognized academic health system. Together, we aim to deliver exceptional clinical care to patients and communities while also fostering research and education across our integrated healthcare delivery system.

Primary Responsibilities

• This faculty member will dedicate a minimum of 85% of their effort (90-100% for clinical track) to delivering high-quality clinical care in general and interventional pulmonary, with some involvement in trainee education.
• The remaining 15% (for academic track) will focus on educational and collaborative research activities, with an expectation of achieving accomplishments that align with promotion criteria in the academic track (e.g., an average of one publication per year).
• Clinical responsibilities will primarily take place at the University of Minnesota Medical Center (Hospital and Clinics and Surgery Center) and may include time at other Fairview Hospitals and Clinics.
• Active participation and contribution to the PACCS Division and Department of Medicine's academic and clinical programs in pulmonary and critical care are expected.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited ACGME Internal Medicine residency and/or fellowship training program, demonstrating high-level qualifications and extensive knowledge in Interventional Pulmonology.
• Board eligible or certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine and AABIP.
• Possession or ability to obtain a medical license and DEA in Minnesota, meeting the necessary criteria for credentialing and privileges.
• Eligibility for work authorization in the United States through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, maintaining legal status as per VISA requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

This role is jointly employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians, with a total anticipated salary range of $270,000 to $300,000.
