A-Repairman-Carpenter/Mason SKLD Facilities Bus

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for an A-Repairman‑Carpenter/Mason. The role involves renovating, performing corrective repairs, and constructing a variety of wood, metal or composite structures such as forms, buildings, sheds, and offices. Candidates must read blueprints, follow verbal and written instructions, and be familiar with structural and building codes. Masonry tasks include laying brick, block, and concrete; tile and carpet installation; suspended ceilings; drywall installation, spackling, finishing, painting; door and glass repair. Additional duties may be assigned by management within the Facilities Department. Description The current vacancy is located in Baltimore, Maryland. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with Saturday and Sunday off. Qualifications Minimum age of 18 years. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent recognized by the State of Maryland. Five (5) years of experience in masonry and carpentry. A formal vocational or technical trade program in carpentry or masonry may substitute a year of experience for each of the five required years (minimum of 1,200 hours per year). U.S. Armed Forces military service related to rules, regulations, policies, or unit operations may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for educational and experience requirements. Special Requirements Maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call‑back requirements. Work may include shifts, evenings, some holidays, and weekends. Exposure to hazards requiring protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Essential employees must sign and comply with all policies and procedures related to essential status. Eligibility for background investigation under federal and state laws; fraudulent or misleading information on the application will lead to rejection. Environmental Conditions Employees may travel and work outdoors across the MTA service area in all weather conditions and at all times of day or night. Hazards include toxic materials, fumes, asbestos, and flammable agents. Protective equipment such as hard hats, hearing protection, eyewear/footwear, and respirators may be required. Physical demands include climbing, bending, crouching, stretching, and lifting objects of at least 50 lbs. Licenses & Certifications Employees may be required to operate a motor vehicle and must hold a valid Maryland driver’s license. Additional Information All employees must adhere to safety rules, policies, regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements. Participation in safety meetings, hazard awareness, and prompt reporting of hazards or incidents is expected. Violations of safety rules may result in disciplinary action up to termination.
