Operations Manager

Description The Operations Manager for the John McCain Veterans Center is primarily responsible for managing staff and day-to-day operations for this transitional housing program. This position is well-suited for individuals with prior military experience or a strong understanding of veteran culture, who demonstrate an appreciation for structure, collaboration, and service. Shift: Monday - Friday Duties/Responsibilities Manage day-to-day site operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and human capital management. Act as administrator for site. Identify, analyze, and resolve a wide range of technical, process, and operational issues providing quick and decisive solutions. Provide expert knowledge of workforce forecasting and planning to ensure necessary staffing levels to support demand. Develop and instill strong, positive program culture among staff, clients, and families. Participate in strategic meetings with other program managers. Responsible for hiring, training, orientation, supervision, and professional development of staff. Maximize employee satisfaction, development, and performance through goal setting, performance management practices, and employee culture‑building initiatives. Develop and retain team members of staff, providing coaching and developmental opportunities that continuously build, and expand both individual and team capabilities. Partner with the leadership team to develop and execute strategic plans, operational goals, and performance metrics that drive productivity. Implement compliance and quality initiatives, facilitate program evaluation, and provide progress reports to leadership team. Investigate and resolve complaints. Respond to emergency and/or crisis situations gracefully; perform intervention and actions as appropriate to optimize patient safety. Ensure quality of facility by continuously evaluating and resolving any safety and/or maintenance issues. Participate in the development and monitoring of unit budget. Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, goals, and objectives. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Working knowledge of substance abuse treatment. Working knowledge of leadership and management principles and styles. Working knowledge of ASAM. Working knowledge of self‑help programs, including (but not limited to) AA, NA, SMART Recovery, and Celebrate Recovery. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Demonstrable knowledge of Internet software; Payroll systems; Email software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Strongly Preferred: Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces (honorable discharge preferred). Personal or professional experience in recovery or substance use treatment . Familiarity with 12-Step programs , VA systems, or trauma‑informed care. CPR and First Aid certification (can be provided by the organization). Education and Experience Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or workplace equivalent. (Preferred) Two to four years in a substance abuse, behavioral health, or high intensity health care setting. Successfully finds resources, training, tools, etc. to support staff needs. Program Supervision -Ability to establish expectations and clear direction to meet goals and objectives. Ability to motivate and engage employees through effective communication. Knowledge of appropriate policies and procedures. Ability to assign work and to establish work rules and acceptable levels of quality and quantity of work. Ability to review work and evaluate performance of others and to develop individuals’ competencies. Manage Performance -Set clear expectations, write, and monitor employee goals, hold employees accountable for job responsibilities and achieving goals, reward employees, mentor coach and discipline employees when necessary. Create system to manage performance and do so consistently and fairly. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
