Aquatic Lifeguard Position

This position is responsible for assisting in operating and maintaining municipal aquatic facilities while maintaining a healthy and safe environment for public use. This role assists Lifeguard IIIs, Aquatic Facility Lead, and senior-level recreation supervisory staff with other work-related tasks.

Essential functions include serving as a lifeguard and professional rescuer, enforcing rules, inspecting the facility daily, serving as a front desk representative, answering telephone calls, resolving routine problems, ensuring patrons sign the mandatory liability waiver, demonstrating basic care and maintenance of aquatic facilities, performing daily walkthroughs, maintaining cleanliness, assisting Lifeguard III in administrative duties, providing leadership and direction to seasonal employees, passing and maintaining a Vigilance Awareness Test, participating in training, and working overtime or alternate hours as necessary.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, minimum of one season or three months of lifeguard experience, a valid driver's license, a valid telephone number, passing and maintaining a Vigilance Awareness Test, obtaining American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED and First Aid certification, obtaining American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification, passing physical, drug and alcohol related exams, and passing legal background checks.

Knowledge includes various rescue methods, Microsoft Office 365 applications, cash handling procedures, and care, upkeep, and preventative maintenance of aquatic facilities. Abilities include establishing effective working relationships, using sound critical thinking skills, using professional maturity, using problem-solving skills, demonstrating professional workplace habits, and maintaining physical fitness readiness.
