Plays a central role in daily assessment and decision‑making regarding child safety and permanency. Manages and develops staff to ensure timely, child‑safety and permanency‑oriented services. Maintains current plans of service for each child, youth, and parent, ensuring compliance with agency policy. Occupies a fast‑paced, high‑energy environment that requires itinerary organization and independent task management. Travels up to 35% of the time to meet clients, courts, schools, and partner agencies. Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Plans and manages unit operations to achieve project goals and objectives for services delivery by monitoring caseloads, consulting with staff on case issues, approving leave, and holding unit meetings. Selects, manages, and develops staff through field visits, performance data review, conferences, training, and performance appraisal. Interprets program policy and procedures to unit staff, other agency staff, parents, children, youth, caregivers, the courts, CASA, and other stakeholders. Evaluates unit performance through case readings, computer reports, and observation of unit operations to ensure compliance with policy and service control requirements. Develops and maintains effective working relationships between CPS staff, Child Welfare boards, the general public, and legal, medical, educational, and other community resources. Makes casework decisions regarding the removal and placement of children and works with county and district attorneys on legal measures to initiate CPS cases. Performs other duties as assigned to maintain unit operations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Conservatorship knowledge and experience required. Knowledge of child development and family dynamics. Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in problem‑solving techniques. Ability to operate a personal computer. Ability to travel and attend child and family visits, as well as other work‑related appointments after 5 pm. Ability to be on call on a rotating basis and work irregular hours. Ability to work in an emotion‑filled environment. Qualifications (Initial Screening Criteria) American‑educated bachelor’s degree with 3 years of full‑time CPI/CPS case‑work experience, OR 60 accredited college credits plus 4 years of CPI/CPS case‑work, OR 90 accredited college credits plus 3½ years of CPI/CPS case‑work. Alternatively, current employment as a CPS Supervisor I. For CPS Supervisor II: Completion of Phase I CPS Specialist Certification AND CPS Supervisor Certification, OR current employment as CPS Supervisor II, OR management experience above the CPS Supervisor level in a child protection program, with prior CPS Supervisor experience.
