Pharmacy Technician – Omnicell Compliance Specialist LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital | Baton Rouge, Louisiana Full-Time | On-Site (Not Remote) About the Position The LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital is seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team as an Omnicell Compliance Specialist . This position serves as the primary administrator of our Omnicell automated dispensing systems and plays an essential role in medication safety, controlled substance compliance, inventory management, and pharmacy operations throughout the hospital. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional who enjoys problem-solving, working independently, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician interested in expanding their expertise in pharmacy automation, regulatory compliance, and hospital pharmacy operations. Previous veterinary pharmacy experience is not required. Experience in human hospital pharmacy is highly transferable to this position. Responsibilities Serve as the primary administrator of Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets, including system configuration, inventory management, troubleshooting, and optimization. Perform daily controlled substance audits, cycle counts, reconciliation, and discrepancy investigations. Review Omnicell transactions, electronic medical records, and medication administration documentation to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance. Generate and analyze system reports to identify discrepancies, monitor medication usage, and support quality improvement initiatives. Manage medication inventory within automated dispensing systems, including restocking, expiration monitoring, and inventory adjustments. Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and hospital staff to promote medication safety and efficient workflows. Train and support hospital personnel on proper Omnicell use and established medication management procedures. Assist with daily pharmacy operations, including prescription processing, medication preparation, sterile and non-sterile compounding, and inventory coordination. Qualifications Required: Active Pharmacy Technician license in good standing with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Bachelor's degree; OR associate's degree in Pharmacy Technology with at least 2 years of applicable experience; OR CPhT with at least 3 years of applicable experience. Experience with automated dispensing systems, such as Omnicell or Pyxis. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently. Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems and electronic medical records. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Preferred: Five or more years of pharmacy technician experience. Hospital pharmacy experience. Experience with controlled substance management, auditing, reconciliation, and discrepancy resolution. Familiarity with DEA and Board of Pharmacy regulations. Experience with sterile and non-sterile compounding.
