Opportunity Overview

Our organization is on the lookout for a skilled and collaborative Nurse Practitioner (NP) to enhance our Interventional Cardiology program located in San Francisco. This role involves working closely with Interventional Cardiologists to facilitate comprehensive care for patients facing complex cardiovascular and structural heart conditions, while also fostering strong relationships with the Advanced Heart Failure (AHF) and Cardiothoracic Surgery (CTS) teams.

This position is perfect for a Nurse Practitioner with a solid background in cardiology who excels in a dynamic, specialized setting and is dedicated to providing coordinated, patient-focused cardiovascular care.

About the Role

The Interventional Cardiology Nurse Practitioner is essential in managing patients throughout their care journey, which includes outpatient clinic visits, inpatient assessments, procedural planning, and follow-up care . The NP collaborates closely with Interventional Cardiologists to ensure effective clinical care delivery and smooth coordination with AHF and CTS services as required.

While Interventional Cardiologists perform invasive procedures, the NP plays a vital role in preparing patients, educating them, and managing their care post-procedure, thereby contributing to optimal outcomes and an excellent patient experience.

Primary Responsibilities

Clinical Care

• Deliver advanced clinical care to cardiac patients in both outpatient and inpatient environments , including initial evaluations, follow-up appointments, and hospital consultations.

• Conduct thorough cardiovascular assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and collaborate with Interventional Cardiologists to create treatment plans.

• Facilitate pre- and post-procedural care for interventional and structural heart procedures.

Care Coordination & Multidisciplinary Collaboration

• Engage directly with Interventional Cardiologists to assist with daily clinical operations and patient management.

• Coordinate care with Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiothoracic Surgery teams to guarantee timely and integrated multidisciplinary care.

• Participate in multidisciplinary heart team and valve conferences , aiding in patient selection and care planning.

• Assist with care transitions, including hospital discharge planning and outpatient follow-up.

Patient Education & Communication

• Inform patients and their families about cardiovascular conditions, recommended treatments, procedural expectations, and recovery processes.

• Conduct in-person and telehealth consultations , managing patient communications through the Epic electronic health record (EHR) .

• Act as a clinical resource for patient inquiries, symptom management, and follow-up coordination.

Program Support & Quality Initiatives

• Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, and patient experience initiatives within the Interventional Cardiology program.

• Assist with clinical research activities, registry participation, and program development initiatives as needed.

Conditions & Focus Areas

The Nurse Practitioner will assist patients with intricate cardiovascular and structural heart diseases, including:

• Structural heart disease

• Aortic, Mitral, and Tricuspid valve disorders

• Advanced heart failure necessitating interventional therapies

• High-acuity cardiology patients under the care of Interventional Cardiology

Qualifications

Education

• Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (MSN or DNP).

Licensure & Certifications

• Valid California Nurse Practitioner license .

• DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate (CSRC).

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

• Additional certifications as mandated by the department.

Experience

• Previous experience in cardiology is essential.

• Experience in interventional cardiology, structural heart disease, heart failure, or inpatient cardiology is highly preferred.

• New graduate Nurse Practitioners will not be considered.

• Proven ability to care for complex cardiac patients and work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical setting.
