Head of Valuations

Job Description

Our client is a highly established alternative investment firm with a broad, multi-strategy investment platform. They are seeking a senior Head of Valuations to lead and further develop its valuation function across a diverse portfolio of private and illiquid investments.

This is a highly visible leadership role with responsibility for valuation strategy, governance, processes, people, and technology. The successful candidate will serve as a key advisor to senior leadership and partner closely with investment, accounting, finance, legal, tax, audit, and other corporate functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the firm-wide valuation function across a diverse portfolio of private and illiquid investments.

• Set the strategy and operating model for the function, including people, processes, technology, automation, and AI.
\n
• Oversee quarterly and periodic valuation processes, including complex investments across the capital structure.
\n
• Lead valuation governance and committee discussions, presenting key judgments, methodologies, and conclusions to senior leadership and auditors.
\n
• Partner closely with investment teams to evaluate valuation assumptions and ensure consistent, well-supported conclusions.
\n
• Build, manage, and develop a high-performing valuation team, including hiring, coaching, and succession planning.
\n
• Oversee relationships with external valuation firms, fund administrators, auditors, and other service providers.
\n
• Serve as the firm's senior valuation subject matter expert and advise on complex valuation and fair value matters.
\n
• Drive process improvements and scalability across the valuation function, leveraging technology and automation.

Ideal Candidates:

\n
• 15+ years of valuation experience within an alternative investment firm, Big 4/valuation advisory firm, or independent valuation firm.
\n
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP / ASC 820 and private-market valuation methodologies.
\n
• Significant experience with private equity, private credit, or other illiquid investments.
\n
• Proven leadership and team-building experience.
\n
• Strong executive presence and ability to partner across investment and corporate functions.
\n
• CPA, CFA, CAIA, or similar designation preferred.
\n
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
