Project Archivist

Salary Range $23.55-$26.50, depending upon qualifications, plus benefits. Join the Agricultural Heritage Museum as a Project Archivist and play a key role in preserving and expanding access to our historical collections. This temporary, two-year position will oversee the project of cataloging and digitization of a 40,000-photograph collection. This includes working with the Collections Coordinator in developing a processing plan and establishing an achievable timeline. We are seeking a detail‑oriented professional with strong leadership skills who thrives in a collaborative environment. Location This position is located in the historic Stock Judging Pavilion on the SDSU campus in Brookings, South Dakota. Job Responsibilities Arrange, describe, preserve, catalog and digitize visual materials in accordance with professional archival standards and national best practices. Supervise student assistants and interns. Relocation benefits are available per university guidelines. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of: Working in archives, museums, or other cultural heritage settings. Professional standards and best practices for digitization, digital asset management, and preservation of photographic materials. Arranging and describing archival collections and creating archival descriptions and metadata using standard schemas such as DACS and Dublin Core. Skills & abilities: Organize, prioritize, and maintain attention to detail while managing multiple projects and records. Digitize photographs and negatives and manage digital files in accordance with established professional standards. Strong written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and active listening abilities. Proficiency in basic computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Train, direct, and delegate work assignments. Physical ability to lift boxes weighing over 40 pounds, climb ladders, and move carts. South Dakota State University is an equal opportunity employer.
