This is a T-shaped growth role. You start broad, supporting marketing across the board, and go deep on email and audience growth as you take that over. This role is for a scrappy, ambitious marketer who wants to build. You'll work alongside humans and AI that already handle some of the production and reporting. Your time goes to strategy, testing, and the work only a human can do. If you want room to grow fast, this is that seat.

What this role actually is:

You're supporting the VP of Sales & Marketing and our Senior Marketing Manager across the board. You'll touch every part of marketing within our media business - email, audience, membership, sponsor campaigns, paid, social, webinars - inside your first six months. 

By month six, audience growth is yours. We'll set that target with you in your first 30 days.

What you'll do:

1. Grow the audience - where most of your time goes

• Grow, segment, and retain our subscriber base. 
\n
• Run the email program: campaigns, automation, and reader journeys.
\n
• Bring in net-new readers from outside our bubble through newsletter swaps, partnerships, and creator collabs, at a cost you can defend.
\n
• Use every channel we have to do it: social, the podcast, our webinars, the site itself.
\n
• You'll start by running the strategies we set together, and take over setting them as you go. 
\n

2. Turn readers into SEJ Pro members

\n
• Build the acquisition funnel out of the audience you're growing, plus onboarding, lifecycle, and retention.
\n
• Support member programming alongside editorial and our experts.
\n
• This is recurring revenue we're building from scratch. It's visible, and it matters.
\n

3. Drive results for our sponsors

\n
• Help the campaigns we run for advertisers hit their lead numbers, and turn strong results into rebooks.
\n
• Run the paid pushes behind them, working from the VP's plan.
\n
• Sit on sponsor calls and talk honestly about how campaigns are performing.
\n

Who you are:

\n
• A digital marketing generalist first. Comfortable across email, analytics, social, and content; deep in at least one, and fluent in the math behind all of them (cost per subscriber, cost per lead).
\n
• Email is a must. You've grown a subscriber base, not just scheduled sends: a list you built, a newsletter you run, a lifecycle flow you can walk us through. Where you did it matters less to us than that you did it. Side projects and scrappy stuff count.
\n
• You love to test. Set the KPI before you start, run the test, report what you learned. We're a testing team that lets the data settle the argument.
\n
• A relationship-builder. Comfortable reaching out to partners, creators, and publications to make a deal happen, and equally comfortable sitting on a sponsor call talking about performance.
\n
• AI-native. You already use AI in your work and you're genuinely excited to run alongside a pod of agents we’re actively building.
\n
• Scrappy, entrepreneurial, a self-starter. High EQ, low ego.
\n
• Genuinely useful to the people you support. You're organized, you close loops without being chased, and you'd rather ask a sharp question than guess. You bring ideas to the work you're handed, and you don't need to own something to care about it.
\n
• Bonus: B2B, SEO, PPC, or search marketing background; experience inside a publisher or media org; subscription, membership, or community experience.
\n

Salary & Benefits:

• Status: Full-time · Location: 100% remote, US-based

• Salary: $55,000 – $65,000, with room to grow
\n
