Registered Nurse – Medical Specialty UnitShift: Night, 13 Weeks, 3 X 12's. Ratios: 1:5 patient to nurse ratio. First-time travelers are accepted. Weekend requirement: 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule period, combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. No on-call requirement. Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed. Holiday shifts and Charge Nurse assignments as needed per unit. Block scheduling is not accommodated. Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility. No pending licenses accepted. RTO restrictions: No more than 7 days allowed. Post-cath patients require special attention. Community hospital with 240 staffed beds and an Intensive Care Unit. Navy scrubs are required. Charting system used is EPIC. Minimum of 3 shifts guaranteed per 13 weeks. Patient age groups include adults and geriatrics. Daily census is approximately 30 patients. Responsibilities include caring for patients post-gall bladder surgery, post-appendix surgery, post-hysterectomy, chest pain rule outs, nausea/vomiting rule outs, and heart failure management. Interdisciplinary support is available, including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. Essential skills include managing ports, administering blood products, central line care, continuous bladder irrigation, feeding tube care, heparin protocols, interpretation of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions, management of dysrhythmias, using nasal cannulas, managing temporary and permanent pacemakers, patient-controlled analgesia, PICC line management, renal failure management, starting and maintaining IVs, monitoring telemetry, and using rapid response/code teams. Wound care and wound vac management are also required.
