HR Generalist

Position Summary The Human Resources Generalist will run the daily function of the HR operations department including new hire orientation, benefits, leave management, coordination of state unemployed and worker compensation programs. This role includes enforcing company policies and practices as well as monitoring employee relations environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Consults with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate. Maintains basic knowledge of legal requirements in the US (especially California and Washington state) related to day‑to‑day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance, while escalating to supervisor when legal consultation is needed/required. Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale and increase productivity and retention. Works in conjunction with vendors to assist with managing benefit enrollment, employee leave programs, and 401K. Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non‑mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments, including safety training, anti‑harassment training, company policy/process certification, and training. Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications. Conducts/implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs. Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to benefits and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development. Handles employment‑related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. Full‑cycle recruitment managing the entire hiring process from requisition to onboarding. Manages company benefits programs, ensuring regulatory compliance (COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, ACA) and high employee satisfaction. May assist with payroll processing. Qualifications 3+ years of Human Resources experience. BA/BS (Preferred). Knowledge in multi‑state labor laws preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Thorough knowledge of employment‑related laws and regulations. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HR and payroll systems. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, kneel, talk, or hear, and hand grip. The employee may frequently lift, pull, or push and/or move more than 50 pounds. Frequently uses copier, scanner, fax machine, phone, and computer equipment. Work Environment The employee is occasionally exposed to inside cold or heat weather conditions; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
