Optometrist Position at Mission Neighborhood Health CenterThe Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-site community health organization offering comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco. The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV and homeless services. We advocate for health equity and deliver innovative, high-quality services responsive to the neighborhoods and diverse communities we serve.We are looking for an Optometrist to join our team on an on/Call as needed basis. This position reports to the Chief Medical Officer, and is an exempt role with an hourly rate of $72.00 to $78.00 per hour.Primary Objective:The Optometrist - on-call, as needed, will perform routine vision and medical examinations using independent professional judgment in the practice of optometry within the scope of the laws of the state of California, the rules and regulations of the California Board of Optometry and the policies of MNHC.Essential Functions / Responsibilities Healthcare DeliveryExamines eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose ocular diseases and other ocular abnormalities. These include conducting & documenting history, measuring refractive error, conducting visual & confrontational fields, pupil testing, ocular mobility testing, slit lamp examination, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy, tear function testing, etc.Prescribes eyeglasses and other treatment as neededInterprets data from clinical exams, analyze test results and develop a treatment plan.Performs other related duties such as completing school forms, Department of Motor Vehicle, and other like documents.Patient ExperienceThe office has front desk staff and technician for supportPatient education regarding exam and findingsOffice is equipped with autorefractor, lensometer, visual field, OCT, and retinal cameraNo optical currently with a possibility of optical in the futurePractices to the extent of optometry scope and refers to ophthalmology as neededMinimum QualificationsGraduation from an accredited school of optometry, Doctor of Optometry degree.Valid California Optometry license.Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents Certification (T.P.A.)Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) or obtain an NPI prior to employment or start date.Cultural competency working with diverse/low-income communities, especially Spanish-speaking immigrant communities.Knowledge of modern optometric methods, procedures, and practices.Ability to perform eye examinations on children and adults.Ability to write concisely and legibly; communicate effectively; and relate congenially to patients and staffAbility to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with patient records and personal informationPreferred QualificationsBilingual in English and Spanish.Mission Neighborhood Health Center is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive environment for our diverse workforce.
