Job Title: AOI Operator / Solder Technician (2nd Shift)

Job Description

The AOI Operator / Solder Technician supports electronic manufacturing operations by setting up, operating, inspecting, and maintaining automated optical inspection (AOI) equipment and related SMT/PCB assembly processes. This role performs machine setup and calibration, first article and in-process inspections, preventive maintenance, and process monitoring to ensure products meet established quality standards and production requirements. The position is ideal for a mechanically inclined individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, climate-controlled manufacturing environment and has hands-on experience with SMT processes, PCB assembly, AOI inspection, and soldering.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate AOI machines and related SMT production equipment in accordance with work instructions and process documentation.
• Perform equipment setup and calibration to ensure accurate inspection and reliable operation of AOI and SMT machinery.
• Conduct first article inspections and ongoing AOI inspections on PCB assemblies to verify quality and adherence to IPC-A-610 standards.
• Carry out hand soldering and rework identification on PCB assemblies as needed to correct defects and maintain product quality.
• Monitor SMT processes and PCB assembly operations, identifying issues and escalating concerns to support continuous, stable production.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on AOI and production equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Review and follow process documentation, work instructions, and quality standards to ensure consistent and compliant production.
• Support changeovers between products, including adjusting machine settings, updating programs, and verifying correct materials and configurations.
• Assist with root cause investigation of defects and process issues, contributing to corrective actions and process improvements.
• Apply lean manufacturing practices and 5S workplace organization principles to maintain an efficient, clean, and well-structured work area.
• Carry out inspection tasks using statistical process control techniques to monitor quality trends and support data-driven decisions.
• Maintain accurate data entry and production tracking records, including inspection results, equipment status, and production counts.
• Support inventory control activities related to SMT and PCB assembly materials to ensure availability and proper usage.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules, quality objectives, and continuous improvement goals.
• Follow all safety and quality procedures while working in a fast-paced electronic manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with SMT processes and PCB assembly in an electronic manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in operating AOI systems and performing AOI inspection on PCB assemblies.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with production machinery, including setup, operation, and basic maintenance.
• Ability to perform hand soldering and rework on electronic assemblies to meet quality standards.
• Knowledge of IPC-A-610 standards and their application to PCB inspection and acceptance criteria.
• Familiarity with statistical process control methods for monitoring and analyzing production quality data.
• Experience with inventory control and production tracking in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects and nonconformities during inspection.
• Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining quality and accuracy.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and use of production and inspection software.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience providing changeover support between different products or production runs.
• Background in equipment setup and calibration for AOI and SMT machinery.
• Ability to review and follow detailed process documentation and work instructions.
• Exposure to root cause investigation and participation in corrective action activities.
• Experience identifying rework requirements and performing or coordinating rework activities.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing practices to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
• Knowledge of 5S workplace organization and ability to maintain a clean, orderly work area.
• Strong organizational skills for data entry, production tracking, and documentation.
• Willingness to work 2nd shift in a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a climate-controlled electronic manufacturing facility, providing a comfortable and stable working environment throughout the year. Work is performed on 2nd shift in a fast-paced production setting that focuses on SMT and PCB assembly operations using AOI systems and related machinery. Employees work around automated equipment, inspection stations, and soldering tools, following lean manufacturing and 5S principles to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace. Standard manufacturing attire is expected, appropriate for working safely around electronic assembly equipment and production materials.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plano, TX.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Plano,TX.
