CNC Lathe Machinist

Location: Poway, CA
Schedule: Monday–Friday: 1st shift, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM & OR 2nd shift, 2:15pm to 10:45pm
Pay: $30–$40 per hour depending on experience

Position Overview

A precision manufacturing company in Poway, CA, is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to join its team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC lathes to produce high-quality precision metal components.

The ideal candidate has strong CNC setup skills, can interpret complex blueprints and engineering drawings, and is committed to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathe machines to produce precision metal components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and engineering specifications.
• Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections.
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Monitor tool life and make offsets and tooling adjustments as needed.
• Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and production issues.
• Perform routine operator-level machine maintenance.
• Complete basic deburring and rework when required.
• Recommend process improvements that increase efficiency and product quality.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards.
• Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 years of CNC lathe machining experience.
• Experience setting up and operating CNC lathe machines.
• Working knowledge of G-codes and M-codes.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments.
• Strong machining math skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of manufacturing safety and quality standards.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

• Aerospace manufacturing experience.
• Experience with tool-life management.
• Experience setting up 3-axis CNC machines.
• Ability to interpret CMM inspection reports.
• Strong knowledge of blueprint dimensions, tolerances, and specifications.
