For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Duration

This position is funded for up to 624 total hours.

Qualifications:

AA Degree in History, Parks and Rec, Education, other similar fields with minimum additional experience of 5 year(s) in interpretation/storytelling and visitor services

• Ability to work independently. Knowledge of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement is desired, but training and information will be provided.
• Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat

Duties:

In keeping with DOI Secretary?s Order 3426 ?Ensuring National Parks Are Open and Accessible,? enrollee will support Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument (BICR) interpretation and visitor services programs by greeting park visitors, staffing the park visitor center, giving interpretive presentations, leading interpretive walks through park grounds, and other general support to the staff and visiting public.

• Collaboratively and independently staff operations of BICR visitor center facilities by providing visitor orientation/information services; responding to inquiries and complaints; maintaining a safe and secure environment for visitors and park resources; and providing general support to BICR staff and visiting public. 50%
• Devise ways to help visitors connect to park resources by capturing their interest and imagination about BICR sites by greeting and orienting visitors; interacting with visitors and answering questions about the park and surrounding community; providing guided walking tours; and giving public presentations. 45%
• Other related duties as assigned 5%

Other:

• Physical requirements: Work will primarily be in the park visitor center. May be exposed to outdoor elements when providing walking tours in the downtown Birmingham community. Most walking will be along sidewalks. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
