Accounts Receivable ("AR") Specialist

A well-established company in the intermodal industry is seeking an Accounts Receivable Specialist to join their team in Charleston, SC. The AR Specialist should bring strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, along with advanced Excel proficiency and proven ability to manage customer accounts. This position reports directly to the Accounts Receivable Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

• Post customer payments by recording cash, checks, and credit card transactions
• Record revenues by verifying and entering transactions from deposits
• Generate manual invoices for ancillary revenue streams (e.g., brokered labor, intercompany sales)
• Prioritize and run customer account statements to assist with collections
• Update receivables by reconciling customer accounts and totaling unpaid invoices
• Maintain organized and efficient records of customer balances and accounts
• Investigate account discrepancies by gathering information from sales, customer service, and customers
• Resolve authorized deductions by entering adjusting entries into accounting software
• Support collections by examining payment plans, payment history, and coordinating with collections staff
• Summarize receivables by maintaining invoice accounts, reconciling totals, and preparing reports or ad hoc requests
• Protect organizational data by maintaining confidentiality
• Support the accounting team's mission through related reporting and special projects as needed

Desired Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, or related accounting role
• Advanced Excel skills required
• Experience with Sage, IFS, or QuickBooks Online is a plus
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
• History of exceeding expectations and willingness to "go the extra mile"
• Flexible and motivated, especially during ERP system transitions

Education / Experience Requirements

• Accounting degree (completed or in progress) preferred
• OR minimum of 3 years' AR/AP/accounting experience
