Senior Quantum Applications Engineer [597]

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and rigorously test novel quantum applications across chemistry, materials science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, finance, and cryptography.
• Explore quantum applications from post-NISQ systems through fault-tolerant commercial utility.
• Identify algorithms that maximize the value of D-Wave quantum hardware while accounting for its features and constraints.
• Implement and support quantum application simulation features.
• Work with quantum engineers to execute applications on quantum hardware.
• Collaborate across research and engineering teams and communicate complex technical concepts to internal teams and users.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with a specialization in quantum computing, or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 5 years of experience developing, simulating, and deploying quantum algorithms, including NISQ algorithms.
• At least 3 years of experience with Python or another general-purpose programming language and a record of shipping production-quality code.
• Expertise with one or more quantum-computing SDKs such as Qiskit, PennyLane, or CUDA Quantum.
• Expertise in quantum-computing and quantum-information-science principles.
• Depth in at least one application area such as quantum chemistry, machine learning, finance, optimization, or cryptography, with hands-on project or product experience beyond coursework.
• Strong software-engineering skills, including clean, well-tested, maintainable code and collaboration through code review, version control, and CI/CD.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development using LLM-based coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or ChatGPT Codex.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
