This is a 1.0 FTE continuing contract Highly Structured teaching position at Challenger Elementary School effective the 2026-2027 school year. The Highly Structured program serves students with Autism or characteristics often associated with Autism who require intensive support and visual‑based instruction. Students’ primary instructional needs include functional communication, self‑regulation, and adaptive skills. Instruction is delivered in groups of 1–2 students with a teacher and 3 classroom paraeducators. Students participate in the WA‑AIM alternate assessment. Class size: Up to 11 students with a teacher and 3 classroom paraeducators. Minimum Requirements: Valid Washington State teaching certificate with a special education endorsement. Job Title Special Services Teacher Job Summary Plan, prepare, and deliver a quality educational program based upon state standards, district curriculum, IEP goals, and effective instruction to students with diverse needs. Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions Plan and provide clear and intentional focused instruction based upon individual student IEP goals using state standards, subject matter content, and district curriculum. Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement. Implement effective teaching practices to facilitate achievement for each student. Use multiple student data elements to assess student progress, modify instruction, and improve learning. Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community to foster student success and meet special education laws and policies. Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment to promote effective student behavior and success. Maintain and submit information/records including student progress. Participate in and facilitate various meetings to address student goals and needs, including school and department meetings, manifestation determination, eligibility, evaluation, and placement. Maintain and process accurate records/documents as required by state and federal regulations and district policy. Direct the work of assigned classified staff. Implement and comply with district policies and the Code of Professional Conduct. Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Job Requirements; Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of applicable Washington State and federal rules and regulations. Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment. Knowledge and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices. Knowledge and skills in using various formative and summative assessments. Ability to address a wide range of academic and social needs, including at‑risk, cultural diversity, English language learners, and special education students. Knowledge and skill in designing and conducting specialized instruction, remediation, and evaluation. Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior. Knowledge and ability to meet students’ developmental needs. Ability to collaborate positively with parents, students, staff, and administrators. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with various constituents. Skills in organization, time management, and record keeping. Ability to operate technology devices and specific software programs. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Commitment to strengthen job‑related competencies. Education Valid Washington State certification with appropriate endorsement(s). Meet highly qualified requirements relative to assignment. Preferred Education and Experience Successful experience as a special education teacher preferred. Second language or language acquisition background preferred. Student cultural and economic diversity experience preferred.
