Tool Room Coordinator

Under general supervision, coordinates the overall tool room operation which supports vocational/technical programs; supervises classified and student employees; performs related duties as required.

The following duties are typical for this classification:

• Selects, trains, and supervises classified and student workers; prepares work schedules.
• Prepares annual budget requires for tool room supplies and equipment; prepares requisition within appropriation constraints; organizes and coordinates inventory of equipment and material.
• Devises record-keeping systems; prepares reports as required.
• Checks tools, materials, and equipment in and out to students enrolled in such shop classes as aeronautics, automotive, electronics, tool and die, or welding.
• Maintains record-keeping system of tools and equipment in use; maintains other records as necessary such as supply inventory.
• Maintains the tool room in a clean, safe and orderly manner.
• May maintain shop equipment and make necessary repairs.
• Provides temporary and vacation relief in similar occupational fields as necessary.
• Maintains shop equipment and makes repairs with guidance from the faculty chairs.
• Monitor the hazardous materials/waste program.
• Setup and monitor the preventative maintenance program in conjunction with the faculty chairs.

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties:

Knowledge of:

• Working knowledge of work scheduling and supervision principles
• Budgeting and estimating stock requirements.
• Effective and efficient record-keeping methods.
• Considerable knowledge of the types, uses, and maintenance of a variety of hand-tools and equipment used in the vocational education classes.
• Tool function and operations.

Ability to:

• Issue and make minor repairs to tools and equipment.
• Maintain record-keeping systems.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Understand and follow written and oral instructions.

Minimum qualifications:

• Two (2) years of experience which required familiarity with tools used in vocational instruction including one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Desired qualifications:

• Two (2) years full-time or equivalent experience in supervisory role.

• Two (2) years full-time or equivalent experience working in an industry aligned with the division's programs, such as automotive, machine, welding, aeronautics, or related fields.

Physical demands and working environment:

Incumbents must be able to perform light manual work. Must be able to stand and maneuver for long periods, walk, reach, bend at waist and knees; stoop, crouch, climb ladders, work with or around hazardous materials. Required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 lbs. Must be able to see to inspect and identify tools and parts, and speak clearly and hear to communicate in person and over the phone.

Employment requirements:

The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:

• Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
• Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
• Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
• Other pre-employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see job posting qualifications section for details).

Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment. These requirements are in accordance with the San Bernardino Community College District's Administrative Procedures and Board Policies.

Cash In Lieu Benefit The district offers a taxable $250 monthly stipend to a benefits eligible employee who waives medical coverage under SBCCD's group plan because that employee has other group coverage (e.g., a spouse's plan, parents' plan, or other employer's plan).

Life Insurance Term Life and Accidental, Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance – The district provides a $50,000 basic term life insurance policy and $50,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) policy. The district pays the full cost of this coverage. Coverage is automatic and effective on the first of the month after your date of hire. Employees are also provided opportunity to enroll in optional term life and AD&D policies for themselves as well as spouse/domestic partner and children.

Pre-Tax Retirement Savings Plan As a district employee, you have two voluntary retirement savings plans available to you, which allow you to invest pre-tax dollars to supplement your CalPERS Retirement Plan benefit. They are a 403(b) plan or 457(b) plan. You may participate in one or both of the plans. Each is governed by a different section of the IRS Code resulting in different rules and provisions. SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union is the districts third party administrators for all retirement savings plans.

Retirement Plans The California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) is a defined benefit retirement plan that provides lifetime benefits based on members' years of service, age, and final compensation. Full-time employees in non-academic positions appointed for at least six months, or part-time employees working at least 50% and appointed for at least one year, are automatically enrolled in the CalPERS retirement plan. Depending on hire and/or membership date, employees are placed in one of two membership categories:
