Implements and evaluates the stabilization and emergency care of the acutely ill neonate, infant, child, adolescent, and adult by Critical Care level of transport via ground and air.Job Description:Essential Functions:Provides continuous monitoring and care of the patient per protocol during transport. Administers medication in accordance with policies and procedures.Maintains documentation of patient assessment and condition, interventions required, and communication processes on the transport record. Assists in documentation of medical histories, symptoms, and vital signs for assigned patients.Initiates direct phone communications between the transport team and the medical control physician to report and discuss clinical assessment, patient status, stabilization interventions, and potential or presenting complications.Organizes rapid transport mobilization and assures appropriate utilization of resources in conjunction with the Physician Consult Transfer Center (PCTC) and NCH Dispatch.Engages in the “workplace community” by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff.Adheres to on-call and scheduling requirements for the Transport Team.Education Requirement:BSN, required.Licensure Requirement:Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio, required.Certifications:BLS, NRP, PALS, ACLS, required.Must successfully complete Trauma course and NCH Critical Care Drug Test, IV Opioid, Hypnotic, Sedative and Anticonvulsant Test prior to completion of orientation.For those with an EMT background, must meet and maintain the role of MICU Driver Paramedic.Skills:Must pass a “Fit for Duty” Test upon hire, annually, and before returning to work from a leave of absence or FMLA.Must be able to competently perform skills and specialized procedures related to stabilization, care and resuscitation.Experience:Three years of critical care experience, required.One year of pediatric/neonatal ICU or ED experience, preferred.Physical Requirements:OCCASIONALLY: Biohazard waste, Driving motor vehicles (work required) *additional testing may be required, Fume /Gases /Vapors, Machinery, Power Tools, Reaching above shoulderFREQUENTLY: Bend/twist, Blood and/or Bodily Fluids, Chemicals/Medications, Climb stairs/ladder, Cold Temperatures, Communicable Diseases and/or Pathogens, Computer skills, Electricity, Flexing/extending of neck, Hand use: grasping, gripping, turning, Hot Temperatures, Lifting / Carrying: 0-10 lbs, Lifting / Carrying: 11-20 lbs, Lifting / Carrying: 21-40 lbs, Lifting / Carrying: 41-60 lbs, Lifting / Carrying: 61-100 lbs, Pushing / Pulling: 0-25 lbs, Pushing / Pulling: 100 lbs or greater with assistance, Pushing / Pulling: 26-40 lbs, Pushing / Pulling: 41-60 lbs, Pushing / Pulling: 61-100 lbs, Repetitive hand/arm use, Sitting, Squat/kneel, Standing, Walking, Working at Heights, Working OutdoorsCONTINUOUSLY: Audible speech, Color vision, Decision Making, Depth perception, Hearing acuity, Interpreting Data, Loud Noises, Patient Equipment, Peripheral vision, Problem solving, Seeing – Far/nearAdditional Physical Requirements performed but not listed above:May push/pull 300 lbs. or greater/with assistance.May lift/carry 61-165 lbs. or greater/with assistance."The above list of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this classification.
