We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to join a real estate organization in Honolulu, Hawaii in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This role supports day-to-day accounting operations by helping maintain accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring transactions are processed correctly and on time. Responsibilities:

• Oversee invoice processing from review through payment, confirming supporting details are accurate and approvals are secured before disbursement.

• Coordinate accounts payable activities, including purchase order matching, payment documentation, and timely resolution of outstanding items.

• Administer accounts receivable records by tracking incoming payments, organizing backup documentation, and helping maintain current account balances.

• Manage check-related accounting tasks such as deposits, reconciliations, voids, cancellations, and replacement issuance when needed.

• Record financial activity in accounting systems, prepare journal entries, and reconcile bank and general ledger accounts to resolve variances.

• Support payroll accounting by posting payroll-related expenses and assigning costs to the appropriate general ledger accounts.

• Assist with the preparation of quarterly budgets and collaborate with leadership to monitor financial performance against plans.

• Review financial statements and balance sheet activity, identify inconsistencies, and help ensure reporting is complete and accurate.

• Contribute to audit preparation, 1099 processing, tax-related compliance efforts, and ongoing improvements to accounting procedures.

• Provide day-to-day guidance to accounting clerks and respond professionally to internal and external questions related to financial transactions.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or 3–5 years of comparable accounting experience, preferably within the real estate industry.
• Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general accounting support functions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook in an office environment that requires strong attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, Yardi, or AppFolio.
• Ability to code invoices accurately, maintain organized records, and process detailed financial information with a high level of accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to handle financial inquiries effectively.
• Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving work environment.
