NATURAL RESOURCES PLANNER II

Overview The Wastewater Pollution Prevention and Reclamation Program, Municipal Discharge Permit Division is recruiting for a Natural Resources Planner II to perform tasks requiring skills to accelerate the drafting and issuance of environmental permit decisions. These decisions support local municipalities in meeting Chesapeake Bay nutrient reduction requirements within their NPDES permits, including nutrient trading. These responsibilities include preparing correspondence to address public comments on complex technical or policy requirements during the public participation process. This field position requires travel to various sites throughout Maryland's surrounding counties. Responsibilities Drafting and issuance of environmental permit decisions to support NPDES nutrient reduction requirements. Preparing correspondence to address public comments on complex technical or policy requirements during the public participation process. Working Conditions and Physical Demands Regular exposure to uncomfortable surroundings during site visits to wastewater treatment plants where unpleasant odors are present. Exposure to hazardous conditions such as chlorine and other chemicals used in the treatment process. Physical demands include lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders, extensive walking through rough terrain and marshlands. Use of protective equipment such as goggles, gloves, masks and occasionally hard hats. Field surveys and site visits involve traveling to various sites throughout surrounding counties. Minimum Qualifications Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development. Experience: One year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science. Drivers license: Valid driver's license with no more than five points required to operate a State vehicle. Out-of-state license applicants must provide a certified copy of driving record at the time of appointment. Preferred Qualifications Degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Geology, Geography, Natural Resources Management & Planning, Biological Science, Chemical Science.
