Mō te tūranga mahi – about the role What you will do Incident response: React quickly to network alerts, diagnose faults, and restore service to protect classified communications. Troubleshooting: Work through complex issues under the guidance of senior engineers, using structured processes and tools. Change and upgrade work: Assist with scheduled change‑rollouts, device refreshes, and firmware upgrades, following documented procedures. Health checks & capacity planning: Perform regular network health assessments, track performance trends, and help plan for future capacity needs. Collaboration: Partner with architects and senior engineers on design reviews and project work, contributing ideas and learning from experienced colleagues. Mentoring & culture: Share knowledge with newer team members, participate in peer‑learning sessions, and help foster a collaborative, high‑performing environment. You will bring along your: LAN and WAN troubleshooting ability, combined with a solid awareness of network‑security principles. A good grasp of TCP/IP fundamentals, common switching technologies and routing protocols. Hands‑on experience configuring, moving, adding and changing routers, switches and firewalls, and the confidence to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise. Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as log analysis, packet captures (PCAPs) and debugging utilities to pinpoint and fix network problems. Understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 concepts—including link aggregation, MTU considerations, OSPF/BGP routing, IPSEC/MACSEC, certificate‑based PKI, MPLS and VRF segmentation.
