Associate Attorney

Associate Attorney (3–5 Years Experience) Cardenas Immigration Law Location: Newark, NJ / Totowa, NJ (Hybrid) Position Type: Full-Time Position Overview Cardenas Immigration Law is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Associate Attorney with 3–5 years of experience to join our growing immigration practice. This role focuses on removal defense and detention‑based cases, including bond and habeas corpus matters. The ideal candidate is a strong legal writer with the ability to manage cases with increasing independence while working under the strategic direction of Veronica Cardenas, Esq., a former DHS prosecutor. This is a high‑performance environment suited for an attorney who is comfortable handling complex matters, working under pressure, and producing precise, well‑structured legal work. Key Responsibilities Manage a caseload of removal defense matters with oversight Draft and review legal documents, including: Motions Legal briefs Habeas corpus petitions Client declarations Conduct advanced legal research and case analysis Develop case strategy in collaboration with supervising attorney Prepare and file applications and motions in immigration and federal court Communicate directly with clients regarding case strategy and updates Appear at hearings, master calendar hearings, and bond hearings as assigned Maintain organized case files and meet strict filing deadlines Qualifications J.D. from an accredited law school Admission to a U.S. state bar (required) 3–5 years of experience in immigration law Fluency in Spanish (required) Strong legal writing skills (critical) Demonstrated experience handling removal defense cases High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines Professional judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision Preferred Experience Experience with: Detention and bond cases Habeas corpus petitions Federal immigration litigation Work Environment Fast‑paced, high‑volume immigration practice Requires strong time management and accountability Work performed under strategic supervision with increasing autonomy High expectations for precision, responsiveness, and professionalism Compensation Competitive salary based on experience Opportunity for growth within the firm Exposure to complex and high‑impact immigration litigation Application Requirements Please submit: Resume Recent writing sample (motion, memo, or brief) Additional Notes This role is suited for an attorney who is serious about developing advanced litigation skills in immigration law and is comfortable working in a demanding, detail‑oriented environment.
