Work Arrangement: Hybrid 3 days onsite per week

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to join the Thales team in Ottawa, Ontario. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Python, C, and C++ , along with Java-based software development, microservices, containerization, APIs, SQL databases, and secure software development.

The position will involve designing and implementing software components, working with senior engineers and architects, developing automated tests, and collaborating closely with QA and DevOps teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement Java-based software components for the LCC subsystem.
Develop and maintain software using Python, C, and C++ .
Design and implement containerized microservices using technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Integrate SQL-based data storage and clustering capabilities.
Develop secure software using cryptographic libraries and secure coding practices .
Develop and maintain gRPC and REST API interfaces .
Work with data serialization and exchange formats including JSON, YAML, XML, and Protobuf .
Translate architectural requirements into reliable, production-ready software components.
Participate in weekly technical and design discussions with senior developers, architects, and engineering management.
Prepare technical/design documentation and participate in code inspections and reviews .
Develop and maintain unit tests for software components.
Support Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) initiatives and test automation.
Collaborate with QA teams to develop BDD feature definitions using Gherkin .
Translate acceptance criteria into executable test scenarios.
Troubleshoot software issues and contribute to continuous improvement of application quality and reliability.
Follow Agile/Scrum development practices and contribute to CI/CD and DevOps activities.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of relevant professional software development experience.
5+ years of hands-on Python experience.
5+ years of hands-on C experience.
5+ years of hands-on C++ experience.
Strong Java development experience.
Experience with microservices architecture .
Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes .
Strong SQL/database experience.
Experience developing REST APIs and gRPC services .
Experience with Protobuf and other data serialization formats.
Knowledge of cryptographic libraries and secure coding practices .
Experience with unit testing and test automation .
Experience with BDD, Cucumber, and/or Gherkin .
Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP .
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices .
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies .
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
