Assistant Professor - Social Work

Overview Faculty are essential to Liberty University’s mission of Training Champions for Christ. A faculty member is expected to model a personal commitment to the goals and values of Liberty University, engage in an active commitment to, and experience of, personal spiritual formation within a biblically informed Christian worldview. They should view their teaching, engagement with students, and scholarship as a means to a significant educational end. They should employ a variety of techniques for the development of good learning conditions, view each student as a unique individual, and, insofar as possible, provide for individual differences, abilities, and interests. The full‑time online social work faculty member will teach social work across the curriculum, equip future social workers, provide professional insight, mentor, and demonstrate integration of faith and commitment to social work values. Courses are taught from a biblical worldview in compliance with the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Educational Policies and Accreditation Standards (EPAS). The faculty member may also participate in student advising, curriculum development, CSWE accreditation processes, and departmental, professional, university, and scholarly activities. Responsibilities Teach material from the approved curriculum in accordance with the assigned schedule to facilitate student success. Assist students in achieving completion of objectives and learning outcomes. Provide regular and timely feedback to students. Participate in school retention initiatives by maintaining contact with students and offering assistance to absent students. Advise students in matters related to academics and attendance. Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process. Maintain and report student grades and attendance in accordance with university policies. Address concerns regarding individual student performance, professionalism, readiness for field or profession, academic dishonesty, or other gate‑keeping concerns, and communicate with other faculty and department leadership. Provide feedback to the subject matter expert and/or department leadership regarding course content and student learning, as part of the program’s continuous improvement process. Perform other duties as assigned. Submit final grades and reporting items on time and respond to student e‑mails within 24 hours and to assignments within six days of submission. Qualifications MSW from a CSWE‑accredited program with five years of post‑masters practice experience. Two years of online/hybrid teaching experience in social work or related field, or two years of professional training and consultation in social work. Demonstrated strengths in teaching at the college level. Understand and articulate social work from a biblical worldview. Proven organizational skills and ability to complete required tasks both timely and accurately with minimal supervision. Effective virtual collaboration with colleagues and department faculty and staff. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills. Creative, innovative, and problem‑solving skills. Basic competency with Microsoft Office365 (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree in social work or related field. Social Work Clinical License. Experience teaching within the CSWE standards framework. Experience teaching social work practice or research courses. Experience teaching social work from a biblical worldview. Experience with learning management systems, preferably Canvas. Experience teaching online social work courses with synchronous components. Location and Time Type Full‑time; Remote.
