Registered Nurse (RN) – CVICU / Acute Cardiac Intermediate Unit

Contract | Days | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) | Every other to every third weekend required | Every other holiday required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 20-bed, all-private, fully monitored Acute Cardiac Intermediate Unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 (may adjust to 1:4 based on acuity)
• Manage and titrate multiple vasoactive and sedation drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, vasopressin, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, esmolol, and others per protocol or written order
• Operate and troubleshoot specialty intervention equipment including Swan-Ganz catheters, external/temporary pacemakers, IABPs, and manage lines such as PICC, midlines, CVCs, arterial lines (radial and femoral)
• Read and interpret cardiac monitor strips independently ; all patients are connected to Philips monitoring systems with monitor tech support available
• Care for a complex patient population including stepdown patients from ICU, TAVR, ablation, Watchman procedure, Micra, Mitral Clip, heart failure, trached and ventilated patients, and EP patients
• Float to all levels of care as needed, including up to the ICU, and assume a full patient team assignment

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum of 2 years of CVICU or Cardiac ICU experience; must be able to function independently from day one — this unit is unable to train for equipment or patient population
• Proficiency in cardiovascular ICU components including swan management, CVC and arterial line care, temporary pacemakers, IABPs, and ventilator/trach patient care (immediate post-op experience is a bonus but not required; VAD and transplant experience not required)
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips and titrate multiple drips simultaneously
• Must comply with a drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
• Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local rate adjustment

Preferred Experience / Skills

• ACLS certification preferred
• CCRN or PCCN certification is a plus
• Experience with immediate post-operative cardiac surgical patients
• Ongoing travel nursing history with ICU-level assignments demonstrating continued proficiency in critical care
