Site Civil Engineer / Project ManagerMoffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are seeking a Site Civil Engineer / Project Manager to join our Oakland (preferred) or Walnut Creek, CA office. The successful candidate will join a team of engineers working on projects at Port of Oakland and other California Ports on large, complex, and exciting multidisciplinary projects. This position will lead and manage the planning, design, and construction to support complex projects at port/cargo terminals, municipal sites, and private commercial/industrial developments. The ideal candidate has strong project management skills and will be given opportunities as a client-facing team member. The firm provides clients worldwide with customized service and a level of excellence that have become the firm's hallmark in several primary practice areas – ports and harbors; coastal, environmental and water resources; urban waterfronts and marinas; transportation, bridges and rail; inspection and rehabilitation; and energy.Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeads and manages projects by preparing engineering design, documents, and specificationsPrepares engineering design for storm drainage, water distribution, grading, sanitary sewer, site paving, and erosion and sediment control.Performs drainage studies using stormwater modeling software.Determines project costs by calculating labor, material, and related costsPrepares written deliverables including reports and memorandumsCreates feasibility study by analyzing engineering design, reviewing environmental studies, and assembling dataConfirms adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, inspecting construction site, and verifying calculations and placementsPrepares and submits permit application packages to federal, state, and local permitting agencies.Manages subconsultants in the development of engineering evaluations and designsInterfaces with clients by providing engineering information, recommendations, project updates, and answering questions and requestsOversees project personnelMentors and assists junior engineers in developing final design plansOther duties:Please note this job posting is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university degree programProfessional Engineer licensure in California or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire4 to 10 years of experience in site civil engineering; port experience preferredCompetence in civil site engineering design is required including storm drainage, water distribution, grading, sanitary sewer, site paving, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater modelingSome project management experience is requiredProficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Word and ExcelStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to plan, schedule work and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelinesAll new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hireWorking conditions:Majority of work is office based.
