Licensed Practical Nurse Per Diem UCHC ADTC

Overview University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating under Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides physical, mental, dental and specialty care to individuals in the criminal justice system. The position is a Part‑time Licensed Practical Nurse per diem at the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center in Avenel, NJ. Responsibilities Provide direct and technical nursing care within scope of practice to assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Gather and record patient data, communicating relevant information to the RN to aid care planning. Educate patients and significant others on health status, treatment plans, and discharge instructions. Assist patients with discharge preparation and health maintenance at home. Document all aspects of patient care. Participate in data collection related to patient status needs. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment while working with healthcare professionals and security officers in a correctional setting. Qualifications Valid Licensed Practical Nurse registration in the State of New Jersey. CPR certification. Valid driver’s license and ownership or reliable access to a vehicle to travel between sites. At least six months of experience in an acute hospital setting (preferred). Physical Demands and Work Environment Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting and rotating patients who cannot ambulate, up to 50 pounds. Pay is adjusted by location, vacancy, candidate’s qualifications and departmental or grant funds. Work Hours and Work Arrangement Per Diem, 19 hours per week. Rotating shift schedule. Full onsite work arrangement. Union: Teamster Per Diem. Term: Staff – 12 months. Pension eligibility: PERS. Immunization Requirements Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, employees may be required to provide proof of Seasonal Influenza vaccination during Flu Season unless an exemption is granted.
