Facilities Mechanical Maintenance CoordinatorThe Iowa Department of Administrative Services is seeking a skilled, journeyman-level Facilities Mechanical Maintenance Coordinator to join our Facilities Management team. This role is ideal for an experienced trades professional who takes pride in high-quality work, values consistency and stability, and wants to apply their skills in a mission-driven public service environment.You'll play a critical, hands-on role in maintaining and repairing state facilities that serve Iowans every day-working independently, solving complex mechanical issues, and coordinating work across multiple building systems.What You'll Do:As a journeyman-level maintenance professional, you will:Perform skilled mechanical maintenance and repair work across multiple trades, including mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic, and low-voltage electronic systems (24V and below).Independently diagnose and troubleshoot complex building system issues, recommending effective, long-term solutions.Conduct preventive maintenance and system inspections for HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical equipment to ensure reliability and safety.Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, sketches, and specifications to complete installations and repairs accurately.Safely operate and maintain a full range of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.Coordinate directly with vendors, contractors, and service providers, including scheduling, oversight, and communication.Manage and document work orders, repairs, parts usage, and maintenance activities. Ensure all work complies with fire codes, safety standards, and applicable building regulations.Serve as a knowledgeable, professional point of contact for building occupants regarding maintenance needs and timelines.Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Subject to call-in, on-call rotation, overtime, and occasional travel)What We're Looking For:This role is best suited for someone who brings:Journeyman-level knowledge and hands-on experience in building and mechanical trades.Working experience with plumbing, HVAC, ventilation, boilers, and refrigeration systems.Familiarity with computerized building control systems and maintenance management software.The ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities across facilities. Strong communication skills and a professional, service-oriented approach.Basic proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and facility management applications.Additional Requirements:Successful completion of a background check is required.Valid Iowa Driver's License (or ability to obtain and maintain).Ability to safely operate forklifts, scissor lifts, manlifts, and similar equipment.Willingness to participate in on-call rotations, weekends, and after-hours work as needed.Why Join DAS?At DAS, your work has visible impact.
