PSYCHIATRIC SOCIAL WORKER II/ EMERGENCY APPOINTMENTS HOMELESSNESS

Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Psychiatric Social Worker II vacancies related to the homelessness crisis. This examination will remain open until the needs of the service are met. Applicants may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. Responsibilities Interview individuals, their families and/or significant others to obtain history related to family, social, employment, medical, substance abuse, and mental health treatment. Assess client functioning in their environmental setting. Develop a Client Care Coordination Plan (CCCP) designed to resolve or cope with mental or emotional problems, including individual, group, family or marital counseling, case management, and/or referral to other treatment sources. Determine therapy duration, priorities and methods, and modify treatment goals as needed. Provide psychotherapy to individuals, groups, families, and significant others. Provide case management services to secure resources for clients and families. Assist clients, families, and significant others in understanding mental health problems, substance abuse disorders, and encouraging collaborative problem resolution. Work with families and significant others to gain acceptance of and participation in treatment recommendations. Interview persons seeking psychiatric assistance on an emergency basis and use crisis intervention techniques to prevent hospitalization. Act as a member of a mental health emergency intervention team or joint law enforcement/mental health emergency intervention team, evaluating behavior to determine danger to self or others. Initiate procedures for immediate 72‑hour detention at a hospital and, if necessary, schedule evaluation and treatment at a mental health clinic or community treatment agency. Participate in multi‑disciplinary team conferences to discuss and evaluate client progress. Train social work students and staff, conduct in‑service training, and provide technical instruction. Instruct community agencies on mental health principles for identifying and treating problems. Participate in research to increase knowledge of mental health problems and improve therapeutic methods. Review treatment authorization requests from hospitals and community‑based providers, recommending approval or denial based on compliance requirements. Minimum Requirements A valid and active license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Behavioral Sciences. Valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method to carry out essential functions. Physical Class II – light: occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds, light bending, stooping, or squatting; considerable ambulation may be involved.
