Crane Operator

Job Title

Responsible for operating a stationary or traveling crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. Depresses buttons, lifts levers, and ensures load is safely attached to crane before bringing it down. Under general supervision, performs safe and efficient duties necessary in the heavy construction industry. The incumbent will need to operate in a safe and efficient manner following all personal protective equipment (PPE) and process requirements. This role is classified as safety sensitive.

Job Description

Wildcat has the ability to self-perform many types of civil construction including earthwork and site prep, concrete and asphalt paving, civil and structural concrete, rock excavation, piling and sheet piling, sub-grade stabilization, and water/waste-water treatment facilities. We also have a tremendous amount of experience with all underground utilities including sanitary sewer, water, storm sewer, and main electrical distribution.

The Sherwood Companies have a proven track record of completing a variety of projects from General Construction, to Construction Management and Design Build Projects for both public and private owners. A brief summary of the types of projects include, urban expressways, bridges, underground utilities, dam construction, asphalt/concrete paving and water/wastewater treatment plants.

Activities/Tasks/Scope

Ability to follow instructions Work as a member of a team Work with all crews doing the necessary tasks to complete a job Work with hand tools and other equipment necessary to complete a task Ensure and maintain work quality Maintain jobsite Preserve and maintain work being done, as well as, completed work Follow all company safety policies and practices Apply improved work procedures to ensure safety and efficiency of operations Perform other related duties as assigned Capable of working outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Capable of working at 200 feet plus elevation. Capable of working at depth up to 30 feet below ground level or floor. Capacity for working where Fall Arresting type personal protective equipment is required. Capable of work on two-point (window washer) suspended scaffold. Capable of working on interior multi-point suspended scaffold.

Certification/Other Skills and Abilities

Operate crane under general supervision. Manipulate or depress crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions. Repair crane as needed. Inspect crane for safety issues on a daily basis. Determine if any parts are malfunctioning. Complete job tickets, service quality summaries, and all other necessary paperwork. Lift, position and place machinery, equipment or other large objects at construction sites and industrial facilities. Drive trucks to worksites and unload trucks. Place blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads. Move levers and pedals to rotate crane on chassis to raise and lower crane boom and to raise and lower load-line. Bolt boom sections together to extend or modify boom for pile driving or high lifting. Work with in precise limits and standards of accuracy. Operate crane according to signals from helper. Start and stop crane engine.
