Staff Accountant

A well-established private real estate investment and development firm is seeking a Staff Accountant II to join its growing Finance & Accounting team. In this role, you'll work closely with senior leadership to support the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close process, and multi-entity portfolio. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Month-End Close Prepare and post journal entries across multiple entities. Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, A/R, and A/P. Support month-end and year-end close activities. Research and resolve account discrepancies. Maintain supporting schedules and accounting workpapers. Assist with trial balance preparation and review. Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements. Support management reporting through variance analysis and financial reporting. Prepare property-level financial schedules and reports. Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting. Support investor reporting and capital account schedules. Accounts Payable & Receivable Process vendor invoices and ensure accurate coding and approvals. Assist with tenant billing, receivables, and collections. Monitor vendor payment schedules and cash disbursements. Resolve invoice discrepancies with internal stakeholders. Support security deposit accounting and tenant ledger reconciliations. Bank Reconciliations & Cash Management Prepare monthly bank reconciliations. Investigate and resolve reconciling items. Assist with cash flow reporting. Support intercompany transactions and cash transfers. Tax & Compliance Prepare schedules supporting annual tax filings and external audits. Maintain GAAP-compliant financial records. Assist with 1099 preparation and regulatory filings. Support year-end compliance activities. Process Improvement Maintain data integrity across accounting systems. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies. Assist with documentation of accounting policies and internal controls. Support system implementations and upgrades. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with property management, asset management, and acquisitions teams. Respond to internal financial reporting requests. Support accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, and new entity formations. Assist with special projects and financial analysis. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience. Strong experience with: Account reconciliations Month-end close Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and formulas. Strong understanding of GAAP. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Preferred CPA candidate or active CPA. Experience in real estate, property management, private equity, or multi-entity accounting. Experience with intercompany accounting. Familiarity with property-level financial reporting, tenant accounting, or CAM reconciliations. Experience with Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, QuickBooks, or similar accounting platforms.
