Responsibilities Assist caregivers with standards of care, involving educators or the nurse manager when necessary (house supervisor after hours). Ensure caregiver assignments are safe and know escalation process when needed. Facilitate unit performance improvement processes as directed by leadership. Supervise and coordinate the delegation and implementation of patient care by licensed and non‑licensed personnel for the assigned shift/area. Serve as the primary point of contact for medical staff on the shift and round with them when the primary nurse is unavailable. Manage patient assignments and unit workflow. Assist patient flow by timely accepting new admissions and ensuring patients with discharge orders to home are discharged within a reasonable timeframe. Project staffing needs for the upcoming 12 and 24 hours, escalating issues as needed. Ensure caregivers take lunches and entitled breaks while assigning buddy systems or relieving for lunch. Perform safety huddles using the huddle boards prior to every shift; ensure bedside shift report is consistent each shift. Remind caregivers of hourly rounding when prompted by technology. Make patient rounds, keeping white boards up‑to‑date and setting up high‑risk patients with all fall prevention tactics. Engage in crucial conversations when idle caregivers are not fulfilling expectations of helping colleagues or attending to their assignments. The Charge Nurse reports to the appropriate supervisor, manager, or director. The position may require additional or varied physical demand or respiratory fit test requirements. Potential for exposure to infections, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, chemicals. Must follow standard precautions. Qualifications Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Oklahoma. Associate of Science in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred within two years of accepting the position. Current BLS certification upon accepting the role. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Department‑specific competencies will be completed during orientation. Emergency Department Only PALS certification required. ACLS certification required. Adult Critical Care Only Competent in all advanced competencies. ACLS certification required.
