Accounting Manager

My client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Management Company Accountant to join their growing finance team. This role offers a unique opportunity to help build and scale the accounting infrastructure supporting a rapidly expanding investment management platform. The successful candidate will play a key role in financial reporting, operational accounting, process improvement, and automation initiatives as the firm continues to grow.

Reporting to the Controller, the Management Company Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations of the management company and will partner closely with finance, operations, investor relations, and executive leadership to develop scalable processes and reporting capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the monthly close process for the management company, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting packages.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
• Perform cash management activities, including monitoring cash balances, recording transactions, and assisting with forecasting.
• Support accounts payable, employee expense reporting, payroll accounting, and vendor management processes.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for operating expenses and departmental spending.
• Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for annual audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Partner with business leaders to analyze expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and improve financial visibility.
• Develop and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support a growing organization.
• Drive process improvement and automation initiatives across accounting and finance functions, leveraging technology to improve efficiency and scalability.
• Assist with system implementations, integrations, and optimization of accounting workflows.
• Support ad hoc projects related to firm growth, new business initiatives, and strategic finance priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA designation or progress toward CPA preferred.
• 5-10 years of accounting experience, preferably within investment management, private equity, hedge funds, asset management, financial services.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting management company accounting within an investment manager, private equity firm, hedge fund, credit fund, or family office.
• Exposure to budgeting, FP&A, and business partnering activities.
• Experience with accounting process redesign, workflow automation, and system implementations.
• Familiarity with multi-entity structures, allocations, intercompany accounting, and management fee revenue recognition.
