The role The Senior HR Manager leads HR operations across Alto’s field organization, supporting more than 4,000 hourly W-2 employees across Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Miami, and San Francisco. This role owns the infrastructures, standards, and execution required to operate HR consistently across multiple markets and complex employee environments. The Sr. Hr Manager leads and develops the market HR team while serving as the senior escalation point for employee relations, investigations, compliance, leave and accommodations, workers’ compensations, HR operations, and workforce reporting. This is a highly visible leadership role operating at the intersection of people, compliance, systems, and field operations. The ideal candidate can both lead through complexity and build scalable processes, turning manual, market-specific practices into consistent HR systems that support a rapidly growing organization. This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll set the standards and build the systems, but you’ll also stay close enough to field operations to ensure they work in practice. What you'll own Lead HR operations across all markets, establishing consistent standards while accounting for state and local employment requirements. Hire a HR Manager for California within your first 60 days. Serve as senior escalation point for complex employee relations matters and oversee workplace investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, and policy violations with documented findings and recommendations. Lead, coach, and develop HR Managers, Generalists, Coordinators, and employee-support functions across markets. Close partnership on workers' compensation program end to end: intake, adjusters and nurse case managers, transitional duty, and return to work Oversee ADA/FEHA accommodations, FMLA/CRA and other protected leaves. Own multi-state employment compliance with significant responsibility for California requirements including wage and hour, CFRA, PDL, FEHA, Cal/OSHA, IIPP, and Workplace Violence Prevention. Establish standards and SOPs for documentation, corrective action, suspensions, terminations, and job abandonments built to California standards and adjusted for other states. Partner with legal and senior leadership on complex employee relations matters, employment claims, and litigation support including investigations, documentation, and risk mitigation. Build scalable HR workflows, SOP’s, and automation that reduce manual work and create consistency across markets. Develop reporting that gives leadership visibility into employee relation trends, case volume, response times, claims, headcount, attrition, and other workforce metrics. The employee contact center and ticket queue, including response and resolution standards. Ensure HRIS data integrity, onboarding and pre-employment compliance, employee status changes, and market level workforce reporting. Partner with Payroll on wage and hour compliance, employee data, payroll issues, and multi state workforce administration. Manager training and coaching on policy, documentation, and progressive discipline What you need 8+ years in HR with real depth in employee relations, and workplace investigations 5+ years managing HR staff across multiple sites in more than one state Experience building HR processes and systems, not only running them. Be ready to walk us through one you built: what it looked like before, what you built, and what changed. Multi-state employment law with substantive California experience, including CFRA, PDL, FEHA, wage and hour, and Cal/OSHA Hands-on workers' compensation and return-to-work experience Nice to have: high-volume hourly workforce in a field, fleet, or logistics environment; Paycor; PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP; bilingual English/Spanish. Also required: valid driver's license in good standing, and availability for after-hours escalations as needed.
