Safety (Security) Specialist

Helping Hands provides HOPE and CARE through personal, trauma-informed programs to individuals experiencing homelessness. Our programs are Trauma-Informed, Data-Driven, and Person-Centered. We take the time to learn each individual's story and help connect them to the appropriate local resources and services to meet their unique needs. We do not duplicate available services; instead, we build strong collaborative partnerships with local programs and foster connections between participants and our community partners. Safety (Security) Specialist The role works in-person/onsite to ensure the safety and security of residents, staff, and visitors to the facility while fostering a supportive, person-centered and trauma-informed environment. This role involves monitoring the premises, responding to various safety incidents, and assisting with emergency preparedness and daily safety operations. Requirements Current OREGON DPSST Certification Required 1+ years of Security experience, preferably in a human/social services environment Will consider both full and part time: Must be available to work Wednesday through Sunday, between 12-9pm Key Responsibilities Monitor entrances, exits, shared spaces and camera views to ensure the safety of all individuals on site. De-escalate conflicts using nonviolent, professional communication and trauma-informed techniques. Conduct hourly walkthroughs and safety checks. Report incidents clearly and accurately, escalating as needed. Support residents during safety-related incidents. Provide crisis response support in collaboration with staff and emergency services. Identify and report safety hazards. Engage positively with residents. Maintain accurate, timely documentation and reporting Essential Skills And Qualifications Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Suite Excellent documentation and reporting skills Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, making sound decisions in emergencies. Excellent communication and observational skills. A professional and compassionate disposition along with excellent customer service skills. Current CPR/First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain within 60 days of hire). Preferred Qualifications Understanding of trauma-informed, person-centered and harm-reduction approaches. Understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness, chemical dependency, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Bilingual/bicultural skills highly desired Physical/Mental Requirements Hearing and vision adequate for interaction with participants, staff, and the general public. Work both indoors and outdoors (including exposure to inclement weather conditions), accompanied by moderate noise levels and exposure to scents. Occasionally operates a computer and/or other office productivity equipment, such as copy machine, printer, and phone.
