Quality Control Chemist - 1st Shift

Job Description

The Quality Control Chemist performs analytical testing on incoming raw materials and finished products to ensure they meet established quality standards. You will work with a range of analytical instruments, support method development and equipment calibration, and contribute to both routine quality control activities and research and development initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work with diverse chemistries and products across multiple industries in a collaborative, family-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical testing on incoming raw materials and finished products to verify compliance with specifications.
• Run basic titrations and operate gas chromatographs (GC), including GC headspace systems, to analyze chemical components.
• Use near-infrared (NIR) instrumentation and other analytical tools to conduct moisture testing and related analyses.
• Prepare and create shipping materials and documentation for the warehouse to support timely and accurate order fulfillment.
• Manage sample fulfillment throughout the day, including labeling, organizing, and distributing samples as needed.
• Assist with method development for new or improved analytical procedures to enhance testing accuracy and efficiency.
• Calibrate laboratory equipment regularly to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
• Perform general lab equipment updates, maintenance, and troubleshooting to keep instruments in optimal working condition.
• Apply good laboratory practices (GLP) and follow established standard operating procedures for all testing activities.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field.
• Heavy coursework in analytical chemistry and general chemistry.
• Hands-on experience with basic titrations and gas chromatography (GC), including GC headspace analysis (during school is fine)

Work Environment

This role is based in a laboratory environment and reports directly to the Quality Control Manager and R&D Manager. You will work on a first-shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The lab is a decent size and equipped with a variety of instrumentation, including gas chromatographs (GCs), NIR systems, and other analytical equipment. The broader operation includes two plants producing specialty lipids, surfactants, and specialty chemical blends for applications such as food products, pharmaceuticals, personal care items, and industrial formulations. You will be part of a team of approximately 40 employees at the local site and 75–80 employees nationally. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Janesville, WI.

The pay range for this position is $30.88 - $30.88/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
