Senior Paralegal

The Senior Paralegal provides comprehensive litigation support to attorneys throughout all phases of civil and criminal litigation, from investigation and case development through trial. This position is responsible for substantive and administrative legal support, including legal research, discovery and document management, preparation of legal materials, case tracking, e-discovery support, and trial preparation. The ideal candidate will have significant litigation support experience, strong knowledge of federal court procedures, and experience managing large volumes of case documents and discovery materials with a high degree of accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Organize and manage documents and data collected during investigations and litigation.
• Maintain the integrity, organization, accessibility, and appropriate chain of custody of case materials.
• Assist attorneys with evaluating complaints, referrals, investigative targets, and potential unlawful activity.
• Conduct legal and factual research and prepare summaries of relevant legal authorities.
• Review, annotate, organize, and summarize transcripts, records, documents, files, and other case materials.
• Obtain and analyze financial, statistical, court, agency, and other public records.
• Draft research reports, memoranda, correspondence, pleadings, document requests, and other litigation-related materials.
• Cite-check, proofread, and assist with the preparation and electronic filing of legal documents.
• Participate in witness interviews and assist with identifying potential witnesses and preparing interview reports.
• Support pre-trial and trial preparation, including organizing and reviewing exhibits and preparing deposition, testimony, and case summaries.
• Maintain case information and support case management activities using applicable legal case management systems.
• Review and manage documents within litigation-support and e-discovery databases.
• Maintain attorney and case calendars and track filing, hearing, and other critical deadlines.
• Screen documents for relevance, responsiveness, confidentiality, and privilege.
• Prepare charts, presentations, reports, and other litigation-support materials.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant litigation support experience, including both pre-trial and trial support.
• Demonstrated experience using electronic litigation-support and e-discovery platforms such as Relativity, CaseView, Eclipse, or similar systems.
• Working knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure.
• Strong legal research, writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large volumes of discovery and case documentation with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the required High-Risk Public Trust suitability determination.
• Must be available to work full-time onsite in San Diego, California.
• Paralegal certificate and/or professional paralegal credential such as NALA CP, NFPA RP/PACE, or ACP preferred.
• Relativity or other e-discovery certification preferred.
• Previous federal litigation support experience is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting complex criminal or civil litigation and trial teams is preferred.
