Position: Director, Data Governance Location: Boston, MAJob Id: 463 # of Openings: 1 Geode Capital Management, LLC is seeking a talented and driven Director, Data Governance responsible for establishing and leading a comprehensive data governance framework. This includes ensuring data is consistently labeled, clean, secure, accessible, and effectively utilized across the organization. The role defines and enforces policies, standards, and responsibilities that uphold data quality and integrity, enabling operational excellence, insightful analytics, and impactful reporting. Collaboration with senior leadership ensures alignment of data governance initiatives with Geode’s strategic objectives, positioning data as a trusted and valuable asset. This role reports to the Head of Portfolio Performance & Analytics.This role is based out of our office in Boston, Massachusetts. You are required to follow the firm’s policy on in-office attendance. Our current policy requires in-office attendance on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and then provides an option to work remotely on Monday and Friday. Please note that Geode may alter this policy at any time.Responsibilities:Create and maintain data standards to ensure data is clearly cataloged, secure, appropriately classified, interoperable, and effectively disseminated.Enhance data quality standards to ensure high levels of data integrity for technology platforms and business use.Lead data stewardship and ownership initiatives, ensuring clear accountability for data assets.Collaborate across the organization to create sustainable data flow diagrams that clearly illustrate how data is sourced, transformed, and managed, including variants and sources of truth.Serve as a strategic partner to senior technology leaders, providing governance expertise and data-driven insights that shape enterprise data strategy, priorities, and long-term vision.Establish and optimize data processes that are consistent, well-modeled, and integrated across systems and teams.Support regulatory compliance, risk management, and audit readiness through strong data governance practices.Promote a data-driven culture by enabling high-quality data for operational excellence, business insights, and decision-making.Provide thought leadership and stay current on industry best practices in data governance and data management.Skills You Bring:10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related field within the Asset Management or Financial Services industryProven track record of implementing enterprise-wide data governance frameworks and driving data quality improvementsExperience working with cross-functional teams to align data governance with business and technology strategiesData Governance Platforms: Expertise in tools such as Collibra, Informatica Axon, Alation, or Atacama for managing data catalogs, lineage, stewardship, and policy enforcementData Quality & Profiling: Experience with data quality assessment tools (e.g., Talend, Trillium, Informatica Data Quality) to monitor, cleanse, and standardize dataMetadata Management: Strong understanding of metadata frameworks and tools to ensure data traceability and transparencyData Architecture: Familiarity with enterprise data architecture, including data lakes, data warehouses, and data mesh principlesCloud Platforms: Proficiency in cloud-based data ecosystems such as AWS (Glue, Redshift, Lake Formation), Azure (Purview, Synapse), or Google Cloud (BigQuery, Data Catalog)Data Security & Privacy: Knowledge of data encryption, access controls, data masking, and compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other data privacy regulationsProgramming & Query Languages: Proficiency in SQL, Python, and R for data manipulation, validation, and automationData Visualization & Reporting: Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or Looker to create dashboards that monitor data quality and governance KPIsWorkflow & Automation Tools: Familiarity with Apache Airflow, Alteryx, or DataOps platforms for orchestrating data governance workflowsMaster Data Management (MDM): Understanding of MDM principles and tools to ensure consistency and accuracy of key business entities.Strategic thinker with strong organizational and problem-solving skillsHigh attention to detail and ability to manage multiple prioritiesStrong leadership presence with the ability to influence across all levels of the organizationPassion for data quality, integrity, and enabling data-driven decision-makingExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to translate complex data governance concepts into business-friendly languageSkilled in stakeholder engagement, meeting facilitation, and cross-functional collaborationA motivated team player who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environmentCompany Overview: Founded in 2001, Geode is headquartered in Boston’s financial district, the center of one of the world’s most vibrant finance and technology hubs and employs approximately 200 employees.Geode is an institutional asset manager providing core beta exposures across a range of equity and niche asset classes, with over $1.5 trillion.
