CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER (HEALTH FACILITY)

Job Description and Duties

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 19, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.  Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Californina Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) is seeking clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and clinical counselors currently employed with the state of California who are interested in additional appointments to provide coverage in a part-time capacity, up to 44 hours per month in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment (ISUDT) program. 

Under the general direction of the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker, the Clinical Social Worker (Health Facility) (CSW) works in Medical Services, ISUDT/Complex Care Programs - ISUDT/Complex Care unit. The CSW provides clinical care and services to incarcerated individuals within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) via telemedicine as assigned and scheduled. The CSW conducts biopsychosocial assessments, risk assessments, level of care assessments, and screenings. The CSW also provides clinical treatment interventions such as brief counseling, group therapy, individual counseling and crisis intervention as needed. The CSW consults and collaborates with other disciplines for the care and treatment of individuals in CDCR/CCHCS and participates in interdisciplinary care planning and coordination. The CSW performs assessments that assists with and facilitates transitional care planning that links patients with community resources and services as they release from CDCR.

Under the general direction of the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker, the Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), works in Medical Services, Integrated Care & Complex Patient Populations Division. The MFT diagnoses and treats mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage, couples and family systems, the scope of the applicable Business and Professions Code(s), and license. Incumbents shall refer incarcerated patients to other licensed health care professionals in accordance with standardized procedures. Travel to other CDCR adult institutions may be required.

Under the general direction of the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker, the Clinical Counselor (CC), works in Medical Services, Integrated Care & Complex Patient Populations Division. The CC applies counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques within the scope of applicable Business and Professions Code(s) and license, for the purpose of treating incarcerated individual’s with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and the effectiveness of preventative skills and behaviors developed for wellness. The CC performs assessments that assist with and facilitates transitional care planning and coordination that links incarcerated patients with resources.

This is a 12-month Limited-Term position that may be extended to 24 months.

Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science is required.
