Job Summary The Special Education Evaluation Coordinator partners with school leadership, special education staff, teachers, and families to coordinate high-quality academic evaluations and support students' academic and special education needs. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Special Education, this role serves as a specialized assessment and compliance resource responsible for conducting academic evaluations, interpreting assessment data, supporting eligibility and Individualized Education Program (IEP) processes, and coordinating related special education services and documentation in accordance with applicable requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional and Assessment Responsibilities Administer academic assessments in accordance with standardized testing procedures and established protocols to ensure valid, reliable, and compliant evaluation results. Conduct comprehensive academic evaluations as part of initial, reevaluation, and eligibility determination processes. Prepare clear and comprehensive evaluation reports that communicate student strengths, needs, and educational implications. Support multidisciplinary teams in interpreting evaluation findings and understanding their impact on student learning and educational programming. Collaborate with IEP and Section 504 teams to develop individualized educational plans, goals, accommodations, modifications, and services that align with evaluation findings. Participate in eligibility, IEP, Section 504, and other student support meetings, as appropriate, to support the development of goals, accommodations, modifications, services, and intervention plans informed by evaluation data. Serve as a learning specialist representative on Student Support Teams (SSTs), supporting student observations, reviewing findings, and providing recommendations for academic and instructional support. Provide evidence-based recommendations to teachers and school teams regarding instructional strategies, interventions, and student supports. Facilitate or support IEP meetings, as needed, including the presentation of evaluation findings and recommendations. Compliance, Case Management and Program Support Coordinate and maintain accurate records for upcoming, in-process, and completed evaluations, ensuring adherence to applicable federal, state, and CDCPS timelines and requirements. Ensure evaluation reports and supporting documentation meet requirements under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, Massachusetts regulations, and CDCPS procedures. Coordinate Related Service Only (RSO) IEP processes for the Early Learning Center, including supporting initial evaluations and eligibility processes, annual and triennial reviews, collaboration with related service providers, and completion and maintenance of required IEP documentation. Collaborate with special education leadership and operations staff to maintain IEP file reviews, documentation accuracy, and audit readiness. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to special education processes, evaluation practices, and service delivery. Deliver training and guidance to staff on interpreting academic evaluation results and using assessment findings to inform instruction and student support. Family and Community Engagement Communicate evaluation findings and recommendations to families and school teams in a clear, respectful, and accessible manner. Participate in parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and other family-facing meetings to discuss student progress and support needs. Attend two annual school Open Houses (Fall and Mid-Year) to foster family engagement and awareness of student support services. Other Responsibilities Perform other duties consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the position, as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications Uphold a passionate belief in CDCPS' mission, values, and educational model. Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred. Hold a valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Moderate Disabilities Teaching License in PreK-8 is required. Previous experience working with school-aged children is strongly preferred. Ability to adhere to strict testing protocols and standardized administration procedures ensuring the validity and reliability of assessment results. Ability to demonstrate skills in collaborative planning and problem-solving. Ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to demonstrate flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and experience with implementing developmentally appropriate strategies. Work Environment This position requires regular onsite work and travel between CDCPS campus locations. The Special Education Evaluator/Learning Specialist works in a dynamic school environment and is expected to maintain a visible presence throughout school campuses and other student-centered settings. Physical demands include the ability to move throughout school facilities for extended periods, including navigating stairs and outdoor areas, standing and walking for significant portions of the workday, and communicating effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners in person, by phone, and electronically. The position may occasionally require lifting and moving of up to 50 pounds. Evening and occasional weekend attendance at school events, meetings, or activities may be required.
