Department of Anesthesiology Preoperative Clinics (APCs) Division Chief Faculty Position

Description The Department of Anesthesiology at Emory University School of Medicine seeks a board‑eligible/board‑certified anesthesiologist to serve as the Division Chief of our Anesthesiology Preoperative Clinics (APCs). The APCs are staffed exclusively by faculty and provide preoperative assessment for patients undergoing elective and non‑elective procedures. The Division Chief will lead the clinical operations within the APCs, including planning, oversight, quality improvement, staff development, and financial stewardship. Key Responsibilities Aid and advise the Chair and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in developing and maintaining clinical operations of the APCs. Participate in professional activities to stay current with pre‑operative medicine trends. Continuously evaluate and update screening protocols and clinical practice within the APCs; deploy best practices across the department. Lead efforts to streamline patient visits to enhance satisfaction and operational efficiency, including setting productivity metrics and revising workflow of clinicians, nurses, and administrative staff. Implement electronic pre‑screening tools to map patient responses into the EMR before encounters. Engage with surgeons, OR scheduling, and other stakeholders to promote a seamless process for arranging APC visits and resolving operational issues. Participate in budget discussions, ensuring adequate clinician staffing and managing financial performance of the APC section. Serve as direct clinical supervisor of the Section’s Chief APP and hospital physician APC site leads. Hold regular meetings with APC faculty and APPs to educate about updates and identify challenges. Represent APC clinicians on facility teams and maintain Joint Commission compliance. Participate in capital budget planning and submit to Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs and nursing leadership. Represent the Section on committees related to APC clinical operations, including physical plant updates, TJC inspection readiness, and efficiency initiatives. Work with the Administrator and Office of Compliance to ensure compliance with regulations. Contribute to policy and strategy formulation for the Department. Prepare and distribute accurate financial projections, analyses, and reports to the Chair, Vice Chair, and administrative team. Candidate Qualifications At least 7 years of experience in a pre‑operative clinic and 3 years of leadership in pre‑operative medicine. MD, DO, or foreign equivalent. Eligible to apply for a medical license in Georgia. American Board of Anesthesiology board‑certified or eligible. Rank of Associate Professor or higher at the time of appointment. Demonstrated experience supporting faculty development, recruitment, and performance evaluation. Experience with academic teaching, clinical research, and scholarly activity.
