Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care / Telemetry – Wisconsin

Start Date: October 12, 2026

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Day/Evening 12-hour shifts, 7:00am-7:30pm, Monday through Friday with every other weekend and some holidays required. Patient ratio 3:1.

Highlights:

• Work in both Acute Med/Progressive Care and Thoracic IMC units within a Magnet-designated, top-ranked teaching facility
• Care for diverse patient populations including thoracic surgery, cardiac stepdown, and hospitalist patients with procedures such as esophagectomies, lung volume reduction, wedge resections, and lobectomies
• Epic EMR system with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response teams, and pharmacy
• Unit features 7 beds with daily census of 7; opportunity to assist with procedures including chest tube insertions in dedicated procedure room
• Strong team-based culture focused on innovation, evidence-based practice, and compassionate care
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted); COVID-19 vaccination not required

Requirements:

• Active Wisconsin RN license or Compact RN license
• BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association only)
• Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience within the last 3 years in telemetry, oncology, cardiac, or PCU/IMC/Stepdown settings
• Ventilator and transplant experience required
• ICU or IMC with surgical post-op experience required; thoracic experience strongly preferred
• Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Epic charting system experience required
• Must pass telemetry competency exam prior to start date with strict passing criteria (80% minimum score with 100% accuracy on lethal rhythms)
• Must reside 50 miles or more from the facility
• Floating to other units as needed is required

Required Clinical Skills:

• Cardiac telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Central line, PICC line, and arterial line management
• Blood product administration and heparin protocols
• BiPAP/CPAP and high flow nasal cannula management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac systems)
• Titration of vasoactive and insulin drips
• Pre/post cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery care
• IV insertion and management, accessing/managing ports
• Wound care/wound vac, surgical drain management
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Patient Population:

• Adult and geriatric patients
• Thoracic surgery patients including lung and esophageal procedures
• Cardiac surgery stepdown patients
• General hospitalist patients
