Area Vice President
Founded in 1997, Think Together partners with schools to change the odds for kids by providing award-winning programs during and outside the school day. We’re one of California’s largest nonprofits working in school districts from San Diego to San Francisco. Whether you’re interested in early learning, elementary, middle or high school, you can invest in your community by working at a local school or working within our home office providing support!
JOB SUMMARY:
The Area Vice President serves as the executive owner of the assigned regional partner portfolio, accountable for gross revenue retention, customer satisfaction, partner health, contract realization, and long-term business growth across Northern and Central California anchored to our San Jose Hub. Operating with an enterprise ownership mindset, this leader is responsible for retaining and growing existing partnerships while delivering exceptional operational performance, program quality, and community impact. Success in this role is measured by the ability to proactively strengthen customer relationships, mitigate partner risk, achieve retention and growth goals, and ensure Think Together is viewed as a trusted, strategic partner.
The Area Vice President owns and cultivates executive relationships with Superintendents, Cabinet members, Board Members, and other district decision-makers, serving as the primary executive sponsor aligned to each district's vision, priorities, and long-term goals. This leader is accountable for anticipating district needs, translating strategic priorities into measurable partnership strategies, and leading executive engagement, renewal readiness, and high-risk partner intervention to strengthen customer satisfaction, partnership expansion, and revenue retention.
This role oversees the Executive Directors of Programs and is accountable for building high-performing teams that consistently deliver operational excellence, program quality, customer experience, and organizational performance across the assigned area.
The Area Vice President maintains a visible presence within the school communities they serve, proactively identifying opportunities to deepen partnerships and align programming with district priorities, including enrichment, STEM initiatives, student engagement, and community-centered programming.
The Area Vice President leads through data stewardship and performance management, leveraging leading indicators, business reviews, and operational insights to drive strategic decision-making, accountability, and continuous improvement. By integrating customer success, operational excellence, talent leadership, and community engagement, this executive delivers measurable outcomes for students, staff, partners, and the organization. This position requires an accomplished executive leader with exceptional relationship-building skills, strategic business acumen, operational expertise, and a demonstrated ability to lead large-scale, customer-facing organizations with an entrepreneurial, growth-oriented mindset.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Revenue Retention, Customer Success & Business Growth
• Own gross revenue retention, contract realization, renewal readiness, and customer satisfaction across the assigned regional portfolio.
• Achieve the area growth goal for revenue, retention of existing business, and contract realization by leveraging existing client relationships, expanding the client base, and driving the performance of the Executive Directors of Programs through targeted coaching, accountability, strategic planning, and performance management.
• Achieve the business growth goal for the assigned area in partnership with the Partner and Customer Success team.
• Develop a deep understanding of district goals, Superintendent priorities, Board priorities, and community needs to proactively align expanded learning programming and operational strategy.
• Translate district priorities into measurable partnership strategies and expansion opportunities that strengthen long-term customer relationships.
• Build trusted executive relationships with Superintendents, Cabinet members, Board leadership, and key district stakeholders through regular executive engagement and visible leadership.
• Build relationships beyond a single champion to create multi-threaded district partnerships that strengthen organizational resilience and long-term retention.
• Foster long-term partnerships by ensuring Think Together is viewed as an integrated, collaborative, and strategic partner rather than a transactional service provider.
• Anticipate district needs and proactively develop regional strategies that support customer retention, partnership expansion, and community impact.
• Lead executive sponsor strategies, renewal readiness planning, and partner retention plans for high-value and at-risk partners.
• Identify, escalate, and resolve high-risk partner situations before contract renewal cycles to proactively mitigate churn.
• Serve as a visible and engaged leader within school communities by participating in district initiatives, community events, and strategic priorities important to customers and stakeholders.
Executive Leadership & Organizational Performance
• Lead the region with an enterprise leadership mindset, accountable for revenue retention, customer satisfaction, program quality, and operational performance metrics to deliver organizational goals.
• Operate the area as a regional executive, ensuring scalable systems, operational consistency, and long-term sustainability across multiple districts and programs.
• Conduct regular reviews of area performance, including financial, operational, customer, and programmatic outcomes, and communicate actionable recommendations to executive leadership.
• Drive accurate forecasting, risk identification, and mitigation planning to strengthen accountability and improve business performance.
• Monitor and analyze area performance metrics, including customer satisfaction (NPS), staffing stability, program quality, contract realization, and operational performance; identify trends and implement corrective actions to achieve performance targets.
• Identify and implement innovative approaches that strengthen operational effectiveness, customer experience, and program impact at scale.
• Represent Think Together at community, district, local, and Board meetings as the executive leader for the region.
Program & Operational Excellence
• Oversee and manage the Executive Directors of Programs to deliver exceptional program quality while achieving retention and revenue growth goals.
• Drive accountability and performance through Executive Directors by establishing a strong culture of ownership, responsiveness, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Participate in the development and execution of strategic growth and retention plans, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and successful implementation of key initiatives.
• Lead and facilitate regular strategic business reviews with direct reports and cross-functional stakeholders to review progress, resolve barriers, and align priorities.
• Ensure operational excellence through consistent execution, scalable systems, and disciplined performance management across the region.
Talent Leadership & Organizational Capability
• Develop and manage direct reports through regular one-on-ones, coaching, work plans, and performance management systems that foster accountability and professional growth.
• Develop and implement succession planning strategies to ensure leadership continuity and long-term organizational success.
• Lead by example by demonstrating the behaviors, work ethic, integrity, accountability, and decision-making standards expected across the organization.
• Build high-performing leadership teams capable of delivering exceptional customer experiences, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Education, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, or related field required; master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in expanded learning, education, youth development, multi-site operations, or other customer-facing service organizations with demonstrated responsibility for large-scale operational leadership and stakeholder management.
