Systems Engineering Lead

Join us as a Systems Engineering Lead at Liebherr USA The Systems Engineer Lead is responsible for leading the technical aspects of research, development, design, and validation of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic hardware and associated control logic for use in large mining haul trucks and/or large autonomous mining haul trucks. Responsibilities Develop mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electro‑mechanical systems for use on large mining haul trucks and/or large autonomous mining haul trucks. Perform system calculations and/or simulations. Create schematic representations of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems. Interface with other disciplines (Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, etc.) to create specifications/requirements that outline control system logic necessary for haul truck functions. Write software and/or use model‑based design techniques to develop software modules. Develop detailed test requests to initiate both component and system level testing and validation. Work independently and as a team member with other engineers, designers, and production personnel, or on ad‑hoc projects. Participate in the Engineering Development Program. Research electric and hydraulic components for use in control systems. Research solutions to optimize system designs and parameters with analytical methods. Specify proper control components (PLC’s, computing platforms, HMI, and other associated hardware). Estimate time and cost requirements for the development and serial production of haul truck systems. Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data. Consult with engineers and other personnel to develop operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information. Train, mentor, and develop engineers and other personnel on operating procedures, resolving system malfunctions, and providing technical information. (Autonomy) Review and approve designs of mechanical and/or electrical systems to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. (Autonomy) Provide technical leadership within the System Engineering team. Act as Scrum Master for System Engineering Jira / Project Place agile work planning process aligned with the department goals and direction set by the System Engineering Manager. Plan, assign, and direct work; address complaints and resolve problems. Competencies Master’s (M.S./M.E.) or Bachelor’s degree (BSME, BSEE, BS Mechatronics, or BS CompE) with 6–10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in an engineering environment. Mathematical modeling of mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems. Review and post‑process machine data logs to develop future system operational parameters using Matlab or similar high‑performance language. Programming language proficiency and model‑based code development skills. Write specifications and requirements that describe system function and logic. Apply basic electrical equations to circuit analysis. Work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Install and modify basic control‑system wiring. (Autonomy) Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Review schematics depicting system operation and design. Proficiency in system modeling techniques using Matlab/Simulink. Understand model‑based code development processes and tools. Knowledge of industrial hydraulics, mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems, automated control, robotic and/or autonomous systems, and MSHA certification. Experience with CAD layouts in a 3‑D modeling software. Project‑management tool proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Project, Jira). Accurately scope technical projects and develop supporting documentation. Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time.
