Funeral Director/Embalmer

Compassionately facilitates funeral arrangement discussions with deceased next of kin and presides over visitation, funeral, and graveside services in accordance with family’s wishes; company expectations; and local, state, or federal laws. May perform Embalming responsibilities. As the licensed Funeral Director, responsible for compliance with all mortuary, health, and vital statistics regulation compliance within the funeral establishment(s). Responsibilities Arrange and conduct meetings with next of kin, including call initiation, obtaining contact information, discussion of needs, scheduling appointments, and confirming through email. Perform removal or transfer of the deceased following company standards, update removal status, and provide respectful care. Greet and escort next of kin to meeting space; initiate and facilitate arrangements conference, summarize desired outcomes, and discuss life insurance and benefits such as veteran benefits. Promote funeral, cemetery, and crematory services and merchandise (catering, flowers, music, Ever Lasting Memory products) and present merchandise options, pricing, and contract completion. Assist or perform services counselor/advocate responsibilities, including reviewing and authorizing merchandise and service contract revisions. Direct services, confirm authorization, and preside as Master of Ceremonies for visitation, funeral, or graveside services with professionalism and care. Inspect deceased, adjust casket dressing, attire, or makeup, and communicate concerns to preparation staff. Inspect services arrangements against contractual arrangements and next of kin expectations, initiate corrective actions, and provide instruction or guidance to services team members. Attribute the suite of event planning responsibilities (resource planning, ordering music/flowers/catering, producing MeM products, setting up event room, post event cleanup, courier memorabilia, various attendant duties). Perform embalming duties: verify identification, review authorization, clean and embalm body, work with hazardous waste procedures, dress casket, update status, maintain preparation room, inventory supplies, and promote safe work environment. Work under general guidance, follow regulations, and collaborate with peers and manager; exhibit accountability and proactively seek guidance. Additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Minimum Requirements Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science. Current Funeral Director and Embalmer dual license within the practicing state. Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record (required for company owned vehicles). Industry experience preferred. Proficient using databases in automated processes and MS Office skills. Work Conditions Work is both indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather. Professional business attire required when in contact with families. Frequent, continuous periods of sitting or standing up to 6 hours per day. Frequent climbing stairs to access buildings. Physical demands include manual dexterity, paperwork, calculator, computer, phone usage, and the ability to push and pull up to 150 pounds on flat and inclined flooring or ramps. Flexibility of availability may be necessary as services may occur outside normal business hours, requiring work nights and weekends. Pay & Benefits Pay: $27–38 per hour.
