Job OverviewSupport customers, customer service representatives, field representatives, agents, and Hubbell subsidiaries by providing advanced technical support and leadership in promoting and supporting the Utility Automation Grid Optimization and Underground Feeder Reliability product portfolio. Prepare pricing and technical data for quotations. Serve as a subject matter expert for complex applications and product configurations, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product application and customer satisfaction. Support strategic initiatives, contribute to product development feedback, and maintain compliance with Hubbell engineering standards and regulatory requirements.In addition, this position will support Hubbell's strategic growth initiative in the substation capacitor bank market by serving as a technical subject matter expert for substation capacitor bank applications and solutions. The role will assist in defining new product requirements, supporting product development activities, developing organizational competency, and helping position Hubbell as a leading supplier of substation capacitor bank solutions for electric utility customers.#LI-CH1A Day In The LifeCore Applications Engineering ResponsibilitiesAct as key technical resource for complex and challenging customer issues, including advanced troubleshooting and resolution.Mentor and develop Applications Engineers, providing guidance on technical problem-solving and best practices.Coordinate and manage multiple projects to completion, ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.Serve as primary technical contact for field sales on strategic opportunities and high-value accounts.Create detailed technical documentation and collateral supporting business requirements and product applications.Provide advanced market analysis and pricing recommendations in collaboration with Product Management and Sales.Participate in and influence the front end of the New Product Development (NPD) process by consolidating market data and recommending design improvements.Ensure compliance with Hubbell engineering standards and applicable regulatory requirements.Represent Hubbell at trade shows, industry events, and technical seminars; may publish or present technical papers.Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to innovative solutions that enhance product performance, cost efficiency, or customer service.Provide technical support for quotations, product selection, application reviews, and post-sales support activities across the Trinetics product portfolio, including Capacitor Banks, Enclosures, Pad Mount Switchgear, Primary Metering, Sensors, Relays, and related products.Substation Capacitor Bank Solutions ResponsibilitiesServe as the primary Applications Engineering subject matter expert for utility substation capacitor bank applications and reactive power compensation solutions.Support Product Management and Engineering in defining product requirements, customer requirements, performance specifications, and application requirements for new substation capacitor bank offerings.Work directly with utility customers, consulting engineers, sales teams, and channel partners to understand application requirements and market needs for substation capacitor bank solutions.Support Engineering during product development by providing application expertise, reviewing designs, participating in design reviews, and assisting with validation and field evaluation activities.Assist in developing application guides, training materials, specification templates, product selection tools, and best practices related to substation capacitor bank applications.Provide technical training and knowledge transfer to Applications Engineering, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Customer Service, Product Management, and Sales teams.Evaluate competitive offerings, industry practices, and market trends to identify opportunities for product enhancements and future development.Support the launch and market adoption of new substation capacitor bank products by providing technical expertise during customer presentations, demonstrations, proposals, and field activities.Assist with troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical issues related to substation capacitor bank installations and applications.Act as the voice of the customer by gathering market feedback and helping prioritize product improvements and future development opportunities.What will help you thrive in this role?PREFERREDBS in Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering curriculum; PE license preferred but not required.Minimum 5+ years of experience in Applications Engineering, Technical Sales, Product Support, Design Engineering, Commissioning, or related technical role with customer-facing responsibilities.Experience in the Power System Utility Industry and equipment including Medium Voltage Switchgear, Capacitor Banks, Reclosers, Switches, Controls, Sensors, and similar apparatus.Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience supporting, designing, specifying, commissioning, applying, troubleshooting, or servicing utility substation capacitor bank systems.Understanding of electric utility power systems, capacitor bank applications, voltage control, reactive power compensation, power factor correction, and switching applications.Ability to read, interpret, and explain technical drawings, wiring diagrams, customer specifications, and engineering documentation.Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical projects and mentor others.Strong understanding of related department functions including Product Management, New Product Development, Manufacturing, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance.Strong technical writing skills for reports, application guides, proposals, and marketing collateral.Experience analyzing and presenting technical, commercial, and market data.Proven ability to lead communications with customers, consulting engineers, sales personnel, and internal stakeholders.Familiarity with applicable utility specifications, industry standards, and engineering compliance requirements.Experience with open-rack or metal-enclosed utility substation capacitor bank systems.PREFERREDExperience working directly with electric utility engineers, consultants, and utility procurement organizations.Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and utility standards associated with capacitor bank applications.Experience supporting New Product Development, product launches, or strategic market growth initiatives.Experience creating and delivering technical training programs.Experience supporting field commissioning, startup activities, or complex field troubleshooting.Experience with SAP and Microsoft Office software.Physical Abilities:Available for travel up to 25-35% of the time, as requiredFrequent sitting, standing, walkingAbility to visit utility substations, manufacturing facilities, customer locations, and testing facilities as required.Ability to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting industrial or utility environments.Hubbell IncorporatedHubbell creates critical infrastructure solutions that power our customers, communities, people and the planet.
